England's back-rower Henry Pollock has been hit with a stern rebuke from former head coach Sir Clive Woodward after his antics against the French crowd in the recent Six Nations clash. At just 21, Pollock, who plays for Northampton Saints, has become a controversial figure, especially with French fans, due to his provocative on-field antics. His behavior reached a boiling point during England's narrow defeat to France, where his taunting seemed to backfire spectacularly.

Pollock faced jeers as soon as his face hit the stadium screen and the boos intensified when he stepped onto the pitch in the second half. His reaction to scoring a late go-ahead try was to silence the crowd with a shush and a taunting cupped ear, only to watch in dismay as a penalty by Thomas Ramos—following a critical error by Pollock himself—sealed a 48-46 victory for France.

"I would definitely sit down Henry Pollock for more than a chat. All players have to do their talking on the pitch,"

Sir Clive Woodward expressed in his Daily Mail column. Woodward criticized Pollock's ineffective baiting, pointing out that it might have been excusable had he been delivering from the start. Instead, Pollock's mistake directly contributed to the team's defeat.

"He is a brilliant player and I would want the real Polock in the team, but not the current one who is fast becoming a liability. That has to change and quickly," Woodward asserted, highlighting a need for a shift in the young star's approach.

Woodward didn't stop at Pollock; he also commented on England's broader issues, particularly their goal-kicking woes. Fin Smith's performance was underwhelming, missing crucial conversions that ultimately cost England the game. Woodward recalled his own tenure, where he emphasized the importance of a reliable kicker, citing his decision to bring in top-tier kicking coach Dave Alred to work with legends like Jonny Wilkinson and Paul Grayson.

"England have to find a world-class goalkicker. Last weekend they did not have one and France did. End of story," Woodward concluded, suggesting that while it's harsh to single out Smith, his misses at goal in Paris were undeniably costly.

This stinging critique from a rugby luminary like Woodward not only underscores the pressing issues facing the England squad but also serves as a call to action for young Pollock, whose potential is immense but currently overshadowed by his on-field controversies.
