From the lush fields of New Zealand to the rugged pitches of Wales, Fletcher Anderson's rugby journey is taking an exciting turn. The 22-year-old No 8, a breakout star from the Crusaders, is packing his bags for Llanelli’s Scarlets after a stellar 2025 season that saw him dominate in both Super Rugby and the NPC.

Anderson, a powerhouse on the field, made a marked impression during his debut year with the Crusaders, helping them clinch the title with his dynamic play in three key games. Not just a flash in the pan, Fletcher went on to collect a trio of accolades with the Tasman Makos, being named Man of the Year, Player of the Year, and Defender of the Year. His move to the Scarlets is seen as a major coup for the Welsh side, currently in need of some firepower and grit after a disappointing start to their season in the United Rugby Championship (URC).

“Fletcher is a hugely talented young New Zealand forward who has had an outstanding season for Tasman in the NPC and has already represented the Crusaders in Super Rugby,”

said Scarlets coach Dwayne Peel.

“He is a powerful, abrasive carrier with a strong work-rate in defence. We are excited about what he can offer us and look forward to welcoming him to Llanelli ahead of a massive block of fixtures for us in the URC and Champions Cup.”

Standing at 1.87m and weighing in at 109kg, Anderson isn't just a physical presence. He's a product of the Crusaders Academy, polished and primed for high-level rugby, and even represented New Zealand Schools back in 2020. His arrival at the Scarlets is timely as they look to rebound from a rough start, including a 34-0 thumping at home by the Stormers. The team is slated to face the Lions and Sharks in South Africa over the next two weeks, and they’re banking heavily on Anderson to help turn their fortunes around.

The Scarlets, currently languishing at the bottom of the URC log, are desperate for a turnaround. With Anderson on board, the hope is that this young, formidable Kiwi can inject some much-needed vigor and resilience into the squad. As they say in rugby, a fresh pair of legs and a fresh perspective can make all the difference. And for Fletcher Anderson, this is the perfect stage to prove that he’s not just a big fish in a small pond.
