It looks like it will be a while before Eben will make it back. He has been out of rugby since December after suffering concussion and still struggling with concussion symptoms.

Remember Lambie having to retire early with similar symptoms.

Eben is pushing 33 already with close to a 130 caps. I was hoping for him to be the first bok to crack 150 caps. He was still playing incredible rugby the past two years and were very unlucky not to get nominated for player of the year.

However, like we saw with Kitshoff, neck injury. Eben looks to be the next illustrious bok to potentially hang up the boots.

Something tells me it is nothing to do with his previous patterns of being injured for club but then show up for the boks.

Last I read is that he pulled his hamstring in bok training. However, it is al a bit of a mystery.

Maybe Rassie will start looking for some proper 4 locks and look past Eben and stop banking Moerat who is also injury prone and offers absolutely nothing.

This will be the year for Rassie to find his next 4 lock. I think RG can do the role there but he is more of running lock than an enforcer.

Any candidates?

He is training with the Sharks but not ready to play after concussion issues

He won’t be retiring and no doubt is in no rush to play for the Sharks - he is holding out until the RC we don’t need him before that

Candidates are Ruan Vermaak, Cobus Wiese, Ruben v Heerden, JF v Heerden, Jason Jenkins, Andre Smith and Corne Rahl to partner RG

All good locks - there will never be another Eben

RG can definitely play 4 as he is even bigger than Eben - so depends on who comes through to replace Eben eventually, RG is able to play 4 or 5

Dave

Plumtree revealed that the Concussion problems are now gone and he is out of contention to play because he had a hamstring injury at the aligbment camp in Cape Town and that is what is delaying his return to play, .

Eben is playing a clever game - fuck provincial rugby and be ready for the RC

We don’t need him playing against Italy and Georgia

I doubt he will make the next World Cup, or if he does past his best, or totally injury-prone.

Eben hasn’t been very injury prone in his Rugby career up till now….but yes he is getting older, but possibly he will make WC 27 fit…. It will be the proper finish to his career.
