The playoff aspirations of the Sharks were brutally quashed under the lights at Hive Stadium, where Edinburgh unleashed a second-half onslaught to clinch a 33-28 victory. Despite a promising start by the Sharks, the Scottish powerhouses secured the win and a bonus point by dotting down five tries on a chilly Friday night.

The Sharks initially dominated, showing their prowess in the scrums and putting Edinburgh under significant early pressure. This early dominance quickly paid off when Edwill van der Merwe sprinted to the try line following a quick tap penalty. Jean Smith nailed the conversion, signaling a strong start for the visitors.

The game then descended into a gritty battle, marred by handling errors and penalties. Edinburgh's hooker Ewan Ashman eventually bulldozed over for a try, with Cammy Scott leveling the scores after the conversion. The Sharks retaliated swiftly; Emmanuel Tshituka muscled his way over from a potent maul, with Smith again successful with the boot.

The drama intensified towards the end of the first half as Edinburgh's Grant Gilchrist deceived the defense with a dummy, paving the way for Glen Young to score. The teams locked at halftime, setting the stage for a riveting second half.

Edinburgh changed gears in the latter half, with quickfire tries from Mosese Tuipulotu and Hector Patterson, reclaiming the lead for the home side. Darcy Graham later extended this lead with a sleek try. Despite a last-gasp try from Vincent Tshituka, the Sharks could only salvage two bonus points from the encounter.

"It was a tough contest, and we had our moments where we could have clinched it. But credit to Edinburgh, they took their chances,"

said Sharks coach JP Pietersen, reflecting on the missed opportunities.

The Sharks are now set to regroup as they prepare to host Benetton and Zebre at Kings Park, hoping to revive their campaign.

Edinburgh's try scorers included Ewan Ashman, Glen Young, Mosese Tuipulotu, Hector Patterson, and Darcy Graham, with Cammy Scott and Ross Thompson sharing the conversion duties. For the Sharks, Edwill van der Merwe, Emmanuel Tshituka, Vincent Koch, and Vincent Tshituka crossed the whitewash, with Jean Smith converting all attempts.
