Rassie Erasmus named a 34-man squad for their UK tour on Tuesday. The Boks will face Scotland in Edinburgh (Sunday 10 November), England in London (Saturday 16 November) and Wales in Cardiff (Saturday 23 November) on their traditional end-of-year tour.

Esterhuizen has recovered from a shoulder injury, while Snyman returns following a foot injury, Mostert is back from a broken leg, and Willemse from a finger injury, and all four players will add valuable experience and skill to the squad.

Willemse’s return marks his first time back in the Springbok squad this year after missing all 10 Tests thus far in 2024 due to injury.

The squad – which will be led by Siya Kolisi, a key figure along with most of the squad members in the team’s triumphant Rugby Championship campaign – will depart for a training camp in Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands between England and France, on Sunday 27 October. The group will then make the journey to Edinburgh on Sunday 3 November for their opening Test of the tour.

The players ruled out due to injury are Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, Salmaan Moerat (both knee injuries), Steven Kitshoff (neck) and Lood de Jager (shoulder). Erasmus’ squad includes 18 forwards and 16 backs.

Springbok squad for the Outgoing Tour:

Hookers: Malcolm Marx (Kubota Spears), Bongi Mbonambi (Sharks).

Utility forward: Jan-Hendrik Wessels (Vodacom Bulls).
Scrumhalves: Jaden Hendrikse (Sharks), Cobus Reinach (Montpellier), Grant Williams (Sharks).
Flyhalves: Manie Libbok (DHL Stormers), Handre Pollard (Leicester Tigers).

Very disappointed that Rassie has left out Cameron Hanekom.

Not a single new cap for a Year End tour? Not one? Come on Rassie, get a grip for goodness sake.

There are too many old players who will not make the next World Cup and should be replaced with younger options.

Other than Malherbe and Mostert, the others are not exactly starting players anyway:

Prop: Vincent Koch (Sharks), Frans Malherbe (DHL Stormers)
Hookers: Bongi Mbonambi (Sharks).
Locks: Franco Mostert
Loose forwards: Marco van Staden
Scrumhalves: Cobus Reinach
Wing: Makazole Mapimpi (Sharks),

I can't think of one thing that Marco Van Staden has done to justify his selection.

Oct 22, 2024, 12:52

Well I at least thought there might be some new faces but nothing.

I really like Mostert, but has he played any Rugby since his leg break ?? We all know it’s time to move on and build new…

But Rassie is more concerned giving the old ones more games to reach there goal’s. How thoughtful from the Genius.

There is no progress in this squad and this EOYT should be the perfect opportunity to test new players.

This squad actually proves that Rassie has a fair amount of " Poephol" mixed in with the so called Genius….Pathetic.

Have to agree there's nothing new and exciting in a bog ordinary squad.

Oct 22, 2024, 13:50

I do not know what two blockbrains Van Staden and Esterhuizen are doing in the squad,   Both are dumb muscle players.    The same applies to  Wiese,

Then there  are te omission of  younger locks like Schikerling.Van Heerden  and Wiese  all better k than powderpuff Mostert - who have been out for five months and should firstly have  played  in URC matches.

.As to wings  I woder why  a huge numbe of other wings are not in the squad/ ahead of Mapimpi,

Oe can nderstand the bsence of Shaca and Roos being out with injuries - but why is reinach still around?

Rasmus still playing with Coetzee’s squad… now that’s genius.

Oct 22, 2024, 15:40

What a boring unimaginative squad ffs Rassie get a bloody grip

As Rooi points out not a single new cap and the likes of Edwill vd Merwe, vd Bergh, Grobelaar and BJ Dixon being dumped

What the fuck are Willie, Mapimpi, Reinach, Koch and Mostert still doing in the squad given their ages and what is average v Staaden still doing in the squad

Boring squad with zero eye on the future - very disappointing squad

The genius has disappointed me

Oct 22, 2024, 17:32

You’ll still beat England, so no worries about that match ! :(

Oct 22, 2024, 18:04

Not so sure about that becs… this will be a full on test and if the WC is any Barometer, it was damn close and England would have won.

Oct 22, 2024, 18:27

Playoffs are different animals. But I'll never underestimate England. They have the uncanny ability to smother the life out of an opponent like they did in that semi.

But yeah, disappointing squad. Thought we'd seen the last of Van Staden after his terrible outing in Argies 1.

Oct 22, 2024, 18:31

So where do we go from here? Will Rassie make more efforts in rebuilding in 2025?

If he doesn’t make wholesome changes in 25 but only 26, that doesn’t leave sufficient time for the predominantly new squad to gel.

So it would have been wiser to do more now than later. Sooner than later this incumbent group will reach a stage where a bunch of those players will just be done.

Then he is sitting with quite a big exodus of squad members and no real replacements.

Sorry to say but his building of depth seems to be a real issue.

Oct 22, 2024, 18:59

Our Squad is a bit all over the place….not sure who will be playing for us.

Oct 22, 2024, 19:57

Given we are playing a weaker Welsh side this would have been the perfect opportunity for Rassie to select a handful of youngsters and spend 4 weeks with them on tour introducing them to the system and playing them against Wales - opportunity lost which is really disappointing

Oct 22, 2024, 20:28

Yeah, I think it’s time Rassie brought in some new blood.

Oct 22, 2024, 21:04

I can understanding selecting a first choice player that might not make the next world cup -
but if they are only a bench or squad player it makes more sense to start blooding new talent.

The Boks won the 4 nations, and this would be a good tour to experiment - especially Wales.
Cobus Reinach and Mapimpi are fringe players, and Kock has able replacements.

Oct 22, 2024, 21:30

Exactly

Willie is not needed we have Fassi and Willemse as options at 15

Mapimpi is behind Kolbe, Arendse and Moodie on the wing - so there was no point in including him. Edwill vd Merwe, Tyrone Green and Tambwe are better options

Reinach should not be in the squad ahead of Papier, Nohamba, Jantjies, vd Bergh or de Wet

How Koch gets in ahead of Wilco Louw is beyond me

Ruben v Heerden, Jason Jenkins, Ruan Vermaak, JD Schickerling, Cobus Wiese, Corne Rahl and JF v Heerden are all better options than Mostert

Why have 3 opensides in the squad in Kolisi, Kwagga and v Staaden when v Staaden is at best solid - Hanekom, Buthelezi, BJ Dixon, Vincent Tsituka, Manu Tsituka, Horn, Gumede, Morabe, Ludwig, JL du Preez, Dan du Preez, Dayamani, Augustus, Ruan Venter and Theunissen are all better options than v Staaden

How is it possible that you don’t select Wilco Louw ??!! The strongest Tighthead Prop in the World!!

Then let’s not even start with the exclusion of Cameron Hanekom??!! This guy is a absolute revelation…..

Nee oooh Vader Tassenberg, jy sit die pot ver mis….

Shit I can’t stand him at the moment, so bloody disappointing….
