Oh, the buzz in London! The EPCR just wrapped up their annual lovefest for club rugby, proving yet again that the heartbeat of the sport thumps loudest at the club level. This year’s assembly saw the who’s who of European rugby, from all 42 teams of the Investec Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup to the big wigs from unions, leagues, and World Rugby itself. This pow-wow is all about syncing pulses to the beat of sustainability, fan engagement, and blossoming growth.

Dominic McKay, the EPCR chairman, was all smiles, emphasizing the crucial role clubs play in the grand scheme of things. “Three years ago, when we outlined our new strategy, we wanted clubs to be at the heart of our decision-making, and the EPCR club conference is an important element of this,” McKay stated. He’s not just talking the talk; the gathering is a major play in fostering unity and setting a collective course for the future of rugby. With a rallying cry for collaboration, McKay is steering the ship through both choppy and calm waters ahead.

"To navigate both the challenges and opportunities ahead, we must continue to work closely and constructively together. Collaboration is the foundation on which we will build the next era of club rugby."

And oh, the figures from last season are enough to make any fan’s heart skip a beat — 1.5 million spectators, over 110,000 at the finals weekend in Cardiff, a juicy €50-million economic injection into the host city, and a whopping 91 million YouTube views! Plus, let's welcome the new partners, JAECOO and Groupe Apicil, to the rugby family.

Chiming in from the commercial side, Investec's chief marketing officer, Abey Mokgwatsane, shared the zest for joint efforts. “Collaboration is important to maintain world-class credentials,” he commented. Digging into the network of rugby’s ecosystem not only spices up what they do but also preps the stage for more fan engagement and legendary tales.

"Talking to people across the rugby ecosystem enriches what we do as a brand. We’re looking forward to more fan engagement and more stories – because club rugby is where legends are born."

With the Champions Cup on the horizon, rugby fans are not just spectators but can score big too. It’s clear as day: the future of rugby is bright, and it’s being painted in club colors. So, keep your eyes peeled and your jerseys ready, because the clubs are where the magic happens!
