Erasmus the stumbling block

The single biggest factor to breaking the conservative Bok pattern of play and the dawn of a refreshing and much needed new pattern of play rests with Erasmus. Personally I don't think he's up for real change, how could he be?......conservative rugby is in his DNA he wouldn't know another way. Anyone of Williams, Moodie, Faasi, Libbok, Sacha and Hendriks would all aboard into an AB side......not so with Erasmus, clearly he is out of his depth.

Faf for example should be deported if not dropped from the squad, Pollard should be benched, the centre pairing of Da Allende and Kriel should be sentenced to bible readings for the rest of their playing days and Kolisi should take up a political cause with the Democratic Alliance. Malherbe should be banned for promoting McDonalds and Bongi should devote all of his time hiding his visog from the children in his neighborhood.

Rassie is out of his depth opines this half baked very dense Denise.

What incredible and misplaced arrogance from the dunce.

Bwahahahahahaha hilarious stuff from the nutter who doesn't have a clue. :D

Calm down Brian, I'll slam you back into your cage for an indefinite period and without the generous servings of peisangs I've spoilt you with.

Got that?...now there's a good chimp.

Jul 17, 2024, 09:54

Take out the 2 x RWCups & DiscoDassie's record ranks below PDivvy's. A fect.

Jul 17, 2024, 10:06

Blob stop being such a fucking rugby ignorant twat

Who the fuck takes out certain achievements and then defines them by what’s left you idiot

Fact is Rassie’s overall record when hands on and not banned is up there with the best Bok coaches we have had - what sets Rassie apart are those two WC’s you want to subtract - get a grip you fool

Jul 17, 2024, 10:31

Who the fuck takes out certain achievements and then defines them by what’s left you idiot

Hehe, that is a bit daft ja, Blobbie.

The facts the approach as to using the backline for attacks are linked to the role of especialy the loosies in joining and ebcoming part of attacks.   There ar two elemns needed and that is that ball protecion and recovey at breakdwns shuld be suported by the Tigh 5 playes keeping a many of the oppositin playes nearer tobreakdown points - allowing he lossies o mv wde out.

Faf failed miserably in that regard and Denny is right in that regard.   Pollock has not adjusted his game - far to many inaccurte ou f hand kicking has much to do with lack of progress in the game plan and although De llende semed to pass and off-load balls the atacks normally died with Kriel - with the result that the wings saw viruallly noting of the ball in the seond Irish test.

I do not think after wo ests the changed approach is undemined by Easmus.   Tha would be totally.   The adjustment of playing attacking rugby went back to 1997 when Du Plessis's efforts was undermined by incompetece of players.   In the second Lions test the Springboks scored three tries and Honiball missed all three easy conversions.   The Lions got 5 penalties and a dropped kick t win the test 18 - 15.    In the thrid Lions test the Springboks beat he Lions 35-6.

After tha the Springbs in the tri-nations gave the Aussies the biggest loss ever.   In the meantime the media blamed Du Plessis for failure due  to a deficient  game plan and the appointment of Mallett followed.    Mallett made exactly two changes to the Du Plessis  backline - he moved Mntgomery from 13 to 15 and brought in Moore at 12.   After the Springboks won the final test as test won under Du Plessis Matllett's team won 16 tests in a row  ending at Twickenham in November 1998.

Mallett did not even try to change the Du Plesis game plan - and the players used.   However some players decied to retire from the game and Mallett made a huge mistake by firing Teichmann as captain - decades latter he admitted it was a mistake.   The mistakes made caused a problem and by 2001 after a string of disastrous performances Mallett resigned as coach.

The above comments reminded me of what happened in 1997 to 2000.  Player needs to be brought into a revised game plan  players need  time and tests to adjust to a new game plan and when theyfailed and cannot adjust to be replaced.    I think the replacements would be completed this year.

So the above comments seems to me premature and we need to see how the plan is implmented and players  not capable to change to the new plan they ned to be phased out - which will be completed by the end of this year.

Erasmus is clearly loosing the plot….he doesn’t know how to build a winning team from scratch….instead holding on for dear life to has beens….a Core that he has inherited….this so called Genius is going to drag all these oldies like Kollisi to the next WC as he doesn’t know any better…,let’s hope he wakes up soon out of his slumber and actually does his job.

Jul 17, 2024, 13:37

BS - he sve SA rgby in 2018 and won wo WC's in a row.   He is gradually changing the team based on performances and not BS like spouted by the dubious site experts.

Jul 17, 2024, 14:38

Yes uncle Mike I won’t deny that he did something for SA Rugby…he made our Forward strength good again….but now Funny enough we can’t exactly Dominate like we used to in the Forward department, our very strong defence that was a trademark, is not world class anymore.

It’s not progressing the way it should be….we won the WC but a lot of luck was involved…he is not doing himself any favours by making the same mistakes as previously with selections….why oh why is he picking older players that is not worth investment??

With such a big talent pool, why is so little of it being used?? If it is Political agendas or the lack of coaching know how, who knows?

But there is things that is not running correctly, especially with him endorsing a Baby Bok coach that is not Qualified enough to.guide Future Boks on the correct path… or Rassies one dimensional coaching methods….a lot of things don’t make sense and that is not a good sign.

Jul 17, 2024, 15:01

Was he any good, we really don’t know because while he was pontificating  Nienaber was fixing the practical stuff.  Three 1point wins, 14 man opponents, the weakest  AB and Aussie teams ever, a miserable record in non WC years.

He reminds me of Biden

Jul 17, 2024, 15:47

Neinaber bwhaaahaaaa the assistant coach of Leinster

Joke

Jul 17, 2024, 16:32

Rassie is a very good coach, but like most coaches from SA- the weakest area has traditionally been the backline attack.

Rassie realised this and initially worked with Swiss Debruin - who is probably the best backline coach in SA.

Now he has got in Tony Brown from New Zealand, who has also played for South African regional teams. Tony Brown is a well-renowned attack coach, perhaps one of the best.

The Boks want a better backline attack, but while retaining the strengths of SA rugby.
Toetsie the former WP and Bok coach tried all-out running rugby- and it did not work for the SA style of players.

The Boks need an attacking style they are confident in, and not revert back to the old way too quickly.
What is concerning is that the Boks are too dependent on Willie Leroux to create backline attack plays. It relies on an individual, instead of a system where players are interchangeable.

If I have a criticism of Rassie, it is player selections.
Why pick Faff Deklerk if up and under are a key part of the strategy to play the game and get out of the Bok half.

Jul 17, 2024, 17:10

Erasmus inherited Coetzee/HM’s team….he went back to defense/forward power. Both good moves.

But now he has to create something….more effective back play and a new team.

So far he seems lost.

Jul 17, 2024, 17:22

Coetzee never had a team he was super shit - Rassie turned them into winners

One would swear by your pathetically weak logic that when a new coach comes in he drops all the players the previous coach used

Is that what Razor is doing with NZ?

But you have a point Moz - Rassie should have turned his back on Eben and co!!!!

Jul 17, 2024, 17:34

Read my new string on this Dave….time to be schooled.

Jul 17, 2024, 19:35

Denny i always thought you had one or 2 good cricket posts...

but this here is your dumbest take on rugby.

i dont even have the patience nor the tolerance to give a thoughtful reply to your bullshit.

The Bok model circa 2023 WC is dead......kaput....finish and klaar. Our three weapons of destruction which is made of the scrum, lineout and the rolling maul is dead and buried. Past saturday alone the Irish stole two of our lineouts and that's with RG and Etsebe both in attendance and now ask yourself when was the last time we successfully worked a rolling maul. So we're left with the scrum as our last and only weapon......really? Ja I'm afraid so and no-one is going to tell me it's enough to win us a RC or a test match.

There has to be a new model. The only way to build a new start up is to select from the abundance of talent who are dressed and ready to launch.

It's said that you cannot teach an old dog new tricks, truly applicable in the Bok situation. There is nothing 50/50 about a new team either as I've previously said there cannot be one foot in the past and one foot in the future, it's all or nothing.

So totsiens and tx for the memory Faf, Pollard, De Allende, Kriel and Willie....you did us proud. Tx also to Malherbe who can now become a full time Maccas employee.

The forwards also need a makeover so totsiens to Kolisi who has a brilliant political career ahead of him if he joins the DA......Van Staden needs to step up quick smart, there is no sympathy for average. The Boks need a vibrant bunch of loosies to further support a brilliant young but inexperienced backline. But remember experience can only be gained, talent and speed is something one is born with and our new brigade have plenty to boast.

What you lose in the swing you pickup on the roundabout.

Let us pray.

Geeez that's harsh!

Jul 18, 2024, 09:10

Neinaber was never the coach just like he is not the head coach a Leinster now - just a puppet

Jul 18, 2024, 11:15

A word about Faf. The Boks did not have quiete enoug forwrds at the breadown to protect possession and Faf.

The Oaks need to realize that thi BOk team has won two consecutive World cups.SA e have retired and many are in the final stages of their Bok careers.  Rassie rightly stuck largely to his RWC tem to play Ireland as he rightly knew he could not make whole sale changes against a class side like the Irish.

What is abundantly clear is that Rassie will introduce new players incrementally while trying to continue winning. Again the sound approach.

I would advise however there will loses on the way as this rebuilding happens. The sifting a players will take a couple of years. Some will show they hve BMT and some wont. Only being tested under severe pressure will reveal who has it and who doesn't.

WE are blessed to have a brilliant rugby brain at the helm. Far smarter and knowledgeable that the armchair pundit who tel us Rassie is out of his depth. Besies winning two World Cups Rassie has a Lions series win and Rugby Championship win. He has been World coach of the year etc.

Poor dense denise's comment must be one of ten dumbest comments ever made on this board. Given his lack of rugby acumen its astonishing a dope like him cant see his one limitations. How would dense do as coach of the Boks. hahhahahahahahaha a ridiculous thought of course but this clown says Rassie is out of his depth. How in the world would an ignorant twit like dense know?

Then we have the unhinged loon mozzietard continuing to smear Rassie, undermine his achievements and castigate Allende and of call Du Toit DUD. With Du Toit we are talking about a world class player, World player of the year and one of the greatest 7s rugby has seen. Such is the bigotry and stupidity of this buffoon that he still cant admit he monumental blunder in assessing Du Toit as a player.

Taken one way these comics provide a lot of merriment! Hahhahahahahahahahahaha

Have a peisang....wtf have as many as your paws will hold.

Jul 18, 2024, 17:19

The Duds… hyped to the hilt. Seeing all the things Dud Toit doesn't do is a bit more subtle. But anybody with half a brain can see the cul de sac Allende has destroyed our back play.

Stick with moz.

Jul 18, 2024, 20:00

Moz one certainty is that you are one of the last anyone would stick with when it comes to rugby

Look no further than powder puff Mostert vs PSDT

That is you in a nutshell

Jul 18, 2024, 21:45

"Rassie has a bad year & he'll be looking up at PDivvy .................. just saying:)"

Nothing against PDivvy...I actually rated him...but Rassie actually assisted him too...I don't get you lot's beef with Rassie...2 RWCs should be the only yardstick...this BS of looking for reasons to diminish that is laughable...Rassie Derangement Syndrome...he's in your head..he's in you're head...Rassie, Rassie....

Jul 18, 2024, 21:59

It’s nothing short of pathetic Draad

Jul 19, 2024, 00:18

I find those who love Trump also love Eluckmiss….the need to be led I guess.

Jul 19, 2024, 00:56

Trump is a complete prick, Rassie is such a nice guy, his players adore him as do the public

Best coach SA has ever had

Jul 19, 2024, 01:04

Rassie was on 65% ............. after Saturday's loss 63.3%............ he'll be happy we playing the Potjies next but the ABs are coming. If we lose, he slips below PDivvy..... fect.

Jul 19, 2024, 01:46

Disco Dassie needs to get even better….his own words is adapt or die. But then as soon as we think things are looking up, we throw away the second test vs Ireland by playing desperate Rugby again. Selecting of a younger team, for a B team match still with oupas in the mix…so that means that he will use his inherited crew, that is basically falling apart, vs Oz + AB….these are things you all see, but conveniently ignore until it’s to late and boks go backwards again….the selection of the RC squad will give us a indication of his plan’s.

Jul 19, 2024, 02:57

….these are things you all see, but conveniently ignore until it’s to late and boks go backwards again

Maybe so, it could also be the fear of change, a lack of timing, a lack of judgement and also the desire to hold onto what's worked in the past. The current situation is new to everyone, the Boks have never had the abundance of talent that they currently have and to expect the new players to adapt or change to the old mould of play is unthinkable but let this sink in.......Erasmus has never had to design a gameplan befitting the new talent, neither has anyone in this forum. To me it seems as if Rassie is going to experiment with a 50/50 mix of old and new but stick with the old gameplan. The old gameplan is dead, yes it worked only just in the WC but the Irish have decimated it in no uncertain manner.

It's not going to work going forward.

You don't bottle the genie, welcome to a new era of Bok rugby Rassie the problem is whether he's ready for it....I don't believe he is.

Jul 19, 2024, 17:29

One may not be able to bottle the genie, but the genius seems to be well and truly bottled without Nienaber. Watch for the hyperbole after we beat (I hope) Portugal.

Jul 19, 2024, 19:00

Dave say what you wish about President Trump but one thought pops out.

No matter how many Ice-creams you sell you will never ever reach his level financially or business wise.

Shame.

Is it TDS or what?

Jul 19, 2024, 19:08

Would that be the Trump that has been bankrupt how many times?

Jul 19, 2024, 19:13

Trump has never been bankrupt….individual ventures have…they are stand alone entities, that’s the way it works in real estate.

Jul 19, 2024, 19:31

Well that’s one way of hiding behind his incompetencies

What the fuck is wrong with the US - Biden and Trump - surely the worst face off in the history of US politics

It’s beyond embarrassing
