The All Blacks coaching carousel is spinning once again with Jason Holland's forthcoming exit at year's end, marking yet another departure under head coach Scott Robertson. Mike Cron, a stalwart of New Zealand’s coaching fraternity, has recently shed light on the inner workings and potential strains within the team’s management.

Holland, who has chosen not to renew his contract following the November internationals, is the second assistant to step away following Leon MacDonald last year. Unlike MacDonald's exit, which Robertson attributed to a misalignment of visions, Holland's departure has been officially chalked up to personal decision. However, whispers of discord have surfaced, suggesting deeper undercurrents of tension.

"It didn't matter who got the job so long as the job got done."

Cron, who has a hefty 218 Tests under his belt with the All Blacks under coaches Sir Graham Henry and Sir Steve Hansen, emphasized the unity and mutual respect that defined their era. "We could challenge [one another], but once we walked out that coaches' door, we’re all united, that was the big thing," Cron explained in his discussion with Sky Sports' Breakdown. He highlighted the importance of a cohesive front, suggesting that even a hint of division can ripple through the team like tension in a troubled household.

The speculations about a rift were further fueled by Israel Dagg, an All Blacks veteran, who noted that the team was 'caught off guard' by the sudden coaching changes. Cron himself expressed uncertainty about the current dynamics within the team, pointing out the unusual nature of losing two significant coaches in such a short period.

"The All Blacks environment is brutal and I mean that in the kindest way, but it can eat you up."

Cron did not mince words about the pressures of coaching at the top level, especially within the All Blacks' setup, known for its high stakes and intense scrutiny. His experience across different national teams gives him a unique perspective on just how demanding the role can be. As the All Blacks gear up for their end-of-year tour, the spotlight will undoubtedly remain on how the team navigates these turbulent waters.
