In a recent Rugby Championship clash in Cordoba, despite a strong 41-24 victory by the All Blacks over Los Pumas, former All Blacks star Stephen Donald has heaped accolades on Argentine maestro Tomas Albornoz. The Benetton playmaker proved a thorn in New Zealand's side with his dynamic play, encapsulating everything from elusive runs to pinpoint kicking accuracy.

Albornoz, who darted through for 74 metres from 14 carries, also managed to slip through a clean break, evade seven defenders, and deliver two offloads, culminating in a try and a total of 14 points from his boot. This performance did more than just impress; it left a mark on Donald, the 2011 Rugby World Cup champion, who sees a bright future for Albornoz.

"I reckon we might have seen a superstar for the first time in the Los Pumas number 10 jersey,"

Donald said on The Aftermatch podcast, praising Albornoz's comprehensive skill set. "His kicking game was absolutely outstanding. And as the match progressed, his confidence surged and his pace really shone through."

Donald's admiration was mirrored by former teammate and 2015 Rugby World Cup winner Liam Messam, who commented on Albornoz's physicality in the game.

"He’s very quick. I just liked his toughness. He was tough,"

Messam noted, emphasizing the no-nonsense, direct approach Albornoz took against the All Blacks' defense. Donald believes that with Albornoz at the helm, Argentina could very well elevate their game for the upcoming World Cup in Australia in 2027. He speculated on the transformative impact Albornoz could have on the team’s prospects, suggesting that Argentina might not just be competitive but could indeed be potential winners with talents like him.

"Come that World Cup in '27, I think he’ll be the starter," Donald projected. "He’ll be someone that all of a sudden, has Argentina got the ability to go from [being] very competitive, always going to be there at the knockout stages, but possibly can’t win the thing. To maybe having the ability now with someone like that, could they take the next step? Who knows?"

As Argentina continues to refine their squad and strategies, the emergence of players like Tomas Albornoz could indeed be the catalyst they need to challenge the rugby world’s elite on the biggest stage.
