Can't see injury only replacements working, just end up with bloody Hollywood's like soccer.
Red cards should only be for blatant fouls and thuggery, rather see a on report system like league.
Should be as much done as possible to keep it 15 on 15.

Gatland can fuck off who cares what he wants
I think the die is cast on red cards. They may change the punishment (i.e. 20 minutes), but I doubt they're going to change what actions constitute red. So in that case I'll take the 20.
Yeah I see your point about replacements. I think fewer would also be in order. 5 instead of 8, for example.

No you can fuck off, who cares what you want
Hey, that was a simple game to learn. I like it.
The large bench favours South Africa, atlhough their is an arguement that a smaller match day team would create more space later in the match as starters tire. That could bring more skill back into the game, and less power/weight.
I’ve never agreed with the way the bench is used now.
But if they brought back the rules meaning only the injured can be substituted, we would be seeing a lot of cheating in order to sub the player, I think.
What is wrong with using the bench anyway you like
Those that disagree are twits
What ever happens we do not want to turn into the cheating cunts that play soccer. They are an embarrassment to sport especially how they attack the ref.
If rugby turns into that shit I am done.
It's stupid to change the game...it's a game we love...fiddling with it will have unintended outcomes...leave it as is, except for red...different player to replace the carded player after 10, not 20, but harsher fines and other sanctions for dirty play...punish the players and the teams, not the fans.
The bench encourages bigger players who can’t lug their bodies around for 80 minutes. Stamina was always part of the equation in rugby ….this grotesquely large bench creates players like that huge French prop. But I would rather allow the maul to be fair game, it has no equivalent in rugby ….make a failed scrum a turnover not a penalty, as it always was….and have a 10minute red, the culpable
player to be out of the game without pay for a month.
The bench should be used however you please
The current rules and conditions apply to all or both teams.
There are some spectacularly stupid comments on this thread but this one definitely takes the cake:
"It's stupid to change the game...it's a game we love...fiddling with it will have unintended outcomes..."
LMAO!
A sport in which the laws have changed probably more than all the other major sports combined, where there has been at least one new law or law change every year for the past goodness knows how many years and where the modern game barely resembles the rugby played in the original test match . . . and here we have the the Squeaky Toy stamping his little foot because changes are being suggested.
The proposed 20 minute red card change doesn't address the single biggest problem with the current red card law . . . which is the enormously different impact that a red card issued in the first minute has compared to a red card issued in the 79th minute. Same offence, two completely different punishments.
As for the bench I'd have no problem with a 5 man bench with a mandatory split of 3 forwards and 2 backs. That's enough to prevent the forward-centric 7-1 splits that Rassie uses but still enough to ensure that 30 players finish the game and also reward versatility.
Can we bring back good old rucking.
Rudehole...Tsek!
, GFY ...and I mean that in the most endearing way ever.
"GFY ...and I mean that in the most endearing way ever."
Whoosh!!!ARSEHOLE!!!...arseholes will arsehole...it's in their nature...so vlak soos 'n damduiker.
No.
The forward do far more work than the backs during literally every game of Rugby.
I remember hardly ever being out of breath as a 10/13/15 when I played.
If you want a bench full of forward the go for it. If teams can't match you, that's their problem. If one of your backs gets injured, that's your problem.
Every time somebody does something a little different and has some success with it, people will complain.
For me, rugby is headed the right direction. The World Cup we just saw was probably the best one there ever was.
If there's a a legitimate reason...like more injuries, for wanting a particular split on the bench, then by all means, mandate it.
But until then, I'm happy with how things are.
The bench has zero to do with the Red Card.
The problem with the Red Card is that it can and has altered the final result of many big games as you have one team with 14 playing the other team who have 15 players for the rest of the game.
Take the RWC 2003 for instance NZ 14 players against SA 15 players and SA winning by one point.
Sure the NZ Red Card was the correct call but did it alter the result, many sugget that it did....who knows.
The Red Card is the issue not the number of players on the bench.
Don't you love the way the fake Bok supporters want the number of players on the bench reduced.
The Boks have had the best bench in the world and these fakers want to give that advantage up.
They are either fake Bok supports or incredibly dumb.
Having 8 on the bench adds greatly to the pace the game is payed at and the tactical battle.
It makes the game more attractive to watch and more interesting.
A master tactician like Rassie used the bench superbly.
I could accept 20 minutes for a red and possibly a fine.
I wonder if the fakers!/dumbasses even realize this move is aimed at the Boks or if they even care.
MOC wants the ruck kiwi style brought back with filed studs etc. Rucking a man on the ground with filed studs was considered heroic by the frot kiwis.
No chance of that MOC and ditto your previously favorite head high tackles. It took years to get the Kiwis to stop those foul tactics.
The Kiwis have been forced to clean up their act. Let's not allow them to regress.

...biggest being the bench to only be used for injury replacements as in the good old days. I'm not against that.
He also wants the mark to be done away with and the 20 minute red card to be a thing. I'm down with the latter, not sure about the former. While it slows the game down a bit as he says, doing away with it might encourage more incessant deep kicking.
