In a stunning display of rugby prowess, debutant Luan Giliomee shone brightly as the Sharks decimated Munster with a 45-0 thrashing in Durban. This emphatic victory breathes life into their Vodacom URC playoff aspirations. The action unfolded at Kings Park, where Giliomee made an unforgettable first impression by scoring early on, and Sharks veteran Makazole Mapimpi capped off his 100th game with two tries in a late show of dominance.

The game kicked off with the Sharks asserting their dominance early. Phepsi Buthelezi, stepping in for Siya Kolisi, bulldozed through Munster's defenses to score the opening try, with Jordan Hendrikse nailing the conversion. Despite some initial resistance and a few promising attacks, Munster's efforts were stifled by frequent handling errors under worsening weather conditions.

As the match progressed, the Sharks maintained control. Giliomee, in a standout moment, broke through to score down the left flank, though Hendrikse missed the conversion. The hosts led 12-0 at halftime, with the rain turning the game into a slippery affair.

The second half saw both teams struggle for supremacy until the Sharks found their rhythm. Following a brilliant Giliomee kick, Phatu Ganyane charged over the line for another try, with Hendrikse adding the extras. Not long after, Emile van Heerden secured the bonus point with a well-executed try, further sinking Munster’s hopes.

Le Roux Malan and Mapimpi then turned the screws tighter, both adding tries through a mix of skillful play and Munster's errors, with Mapimpi's 100th-game celebration marked by a spectacular chase and score after a kick ahead.

"Just being part of this team, with these fans, it’s something special," Mapimpi expressed post-match, reflecting on his milestone and the victory.

With this victory, the Sharks set their sights on their next challenge against Cardiff, hoping to maintain their winning momentum. The Sharks' performance was a blend of tactical nous and raw power, signaling their intent to be serious playoff contenders.

SHARKS – Tries: Phepsi Buthelezi, Luan Giliomee, Phatu Ganyane, Emile van Heerden, Le Roux Malan, Makazole Mapimpi (2). Conversions: Jordan Hendrikse (3), Jean Smith (2).
