Surely no player has ever been knocked out so quickly in rugby.

Argentina kicked off at Emirates Airlines Park and their start went deep into the 22 to where Williams was poised to gather. He caught the ball on the five-metre line, but his right-footed kick was blocked on 10 seconds by the charging Juan Cruz Mallia.

Of that was not reckless dangerous play what is. Disgraceful he didn't get a red.

Pretty duty bunch of players who also played offside much of the match.

Any word on the condition of Williams?

Williams is out for 2 weeks, but that seems like a standard concussion protocol
Not clear how he is feeling (e.g. headaches)

Sanzaar is reviewing the incident to see if it merited a red card.
My first instinct was that it was not foul play, just unintentional.

An Irish guy got a red card fora similar action on a SA rugby player.

That was a red all day.

Did they even give a penalty for it?

This reminded me of the hit on Lambie in 2016 by Stander, though the Puma wasn't as high off the ground. It's a hard one to judge. You jump, you have momentum. I just hope Williams doesn't suffer any long-term affects like Lambie, who eventually retired because of it.

I agree that it was not a RED card incident.

Thankfully Williams is up and about I read so that is a great sign.

Trust re recovers fully as I for one think he is a star scrumhalf.

He is one of the very few positives I had for the past three tests. A kind of loss that could fly under the radar for significance. We are in desperate need for quality at 9.

Of course it should be a red. You're making contact with a player's head long after the ball is out of his hands.

I mean, if that's not red then no kicker is safe as long as the chaser jumps with his hands up pretending he's going for the ball.

By the letter of the law, it may be a red card.

However, I am not convinced it was intentional. It was on the 5 meter line and he charged down the kick just before colliding with Williams

He’s been cited.

If you change the YT video settings playback speed to as low as it can go, he jumps in the air to charge down the kick. He jumped before Williams kicked, so he was already committed.

He did contest the ball as it bounced off his feet when he was in the air. If he completely missed the ball, it would be easier to say it was reckless play.

Williams was not catching the high ball, so he had not won the contest for the space in the air. He was standing in a stationary position.

I just looks like an unintentional consequence of such a physical sport.
His left hip hit Williams in the head, as he turned in the air.

I think the videos can be reviewed to see if their is any intent to hit Williams, but if it appears like an accident he will not be punished.

That was a red all day.

A ten second in red card.

Ah, rugby is a contact sport or stuff thingie.

Rugby prohibits contact on players with no balls in hands.

Exceptions: mistimed tackles.

The guy did not go for a tackle and the way he went could only end with a contact.

As to intent, the guy jumped the way he did as he chose to. Players who play an interception are carefull to jump as vertical as possible. Guy delivered a long jump, not a high jump.

Depends on how many games remain before the WC kicks off.
