England's rugby sensation, Henry Pollock, brushes off nerves like a veteran, despite his youthful age of 20. In a candid chat with Jamie Redknapp on Sky Sports, Pollock shared his exhilaration for the game and his aspirations for the upcoming World Cup.
“It’s a dream to play in front of fans. I love entertaining people. I love playing in front of the big crowds,” Pollock confessed. His debut in the cauldron of Wales' Principality Stadium was less about nerves and more about sheer excitement. “I don’t really get nervous, like I’m excited. My first game in Wales last year at the Principality, I was so excited. I was ready to get out there and play. I love the atmosphere. I love playing in front of fans.”
What drives a young star like Pollock to rugby? It’s the brotherhood. “I just love how it works in rugby. It’s 15 v 15, and then after the game, you’re mates with them, chatting to them, and it’s left on the pitch,” he explained, capturing the essence of rugby’s spirit.
"Winning the 2027 World Cup is the goal!"
After his stint with the 2025 British and Irish Lions tour in Australia, Pollock has his sights firmly set on further glory with England. With the guidance of coach Steve Borthwick, there's a fresh vibe in the squad. “Steve’s come in, and he’s created an amazing group around us, and we have a massive belief that this is a special group. We’ve got amazing talent across the board that we’re going to hopefully do something special,” Pollock noted optimistically.
With the World Cup looming, every match is a step towards that ultimate aim. “The World Cup’s on the horizon, so we’re building towards that. Every game is just building towards that. We talked about the goal, the 2027 World Cup. So, yeah, we can’t wait to see where we go in the Six Nations and in the summer,” he added, his eyes on the prize.
As Pollock gears up for the challenges ahead, his blend of youthful exuberance and clear-eyed focus could be just what England needs to chase their World Cup dreams.
