Given our Jake vs Rassie WC ding dong I took a look at Jake’s WC squad

Fuck me you know how much I can’t stand Mostert given his lack of physicality, I can imagine I went off the scale at Jake as he had the utterly useless Albert vd Bergh in his squad. Mostert is king compared to Albert - and he was 33 at the time.

But for the most Jake had a damn good squad. I was never a big fan of BJ Botha, I don’t like small props but he had Jannie and CJ on board

Never rated Muller at lock so Jake’s backup locks were super shit. Thankfully we had Bakkies and Vic who stayed injury free that WC

Os and Percy were past it much like Rassie having Schalk Brits, Deon Fourie, Vermeulen and Frans Steyn in his squads

He had players I rated like Wayne Julies and Waynand Olivier as backups to Jean and Fourie and of course Frans Steyn replaced Jean

Ndungane on the wing was no great shakes but ok and only there as back up to Habana and JP

But fuck me how could anyone select Albert vd Bergh :)

Albert was faster than most wings and could out jump Michael Jordan…..but I have to agree, at the time we never had the depth we have now at forward. Which would make….let’s think about this…Jake’s WC even more down to the coach?

But the mention of Meisiekind brought a tear to my eye this morning….a blast from the past.

No Moz nice try it had fuck all to do with the coach given the quality of players Jake had on board - he was covered from 1 to 15 with class players except in my opinion Percy at 15

There was more than enough depth in SA as there always is. Jake was just shit at identifying the right players it’s mostly why I did not rate him along with his shit record leading up to the WC.

There were definitely far better options than the insult that was Albert and the very average Muller

Meisiekind, flanked by JJ Englebrecht …..Dave. Or maybe Stepfontein …..how these great players were wasted.

Olivier was a class player but he had one of our best in Jean ahead of him

Serfontein has always been a class act but the fool fucked up his test career leaving SA at such a young age

He clearly has no desire to make a comeback as he has turned down Jake’s request for him to return to the Bulls

Given how highly you regard old Jake the fact that he had Olivier in his squad kind of says enough as does him chasing Serfontein for a return to the Bulls

Are you saying Jake does not know what he is doing?

Only if he tries to get JJ back.

He is already back
