a mountain of egg on my face if the joke of a team beats NZ. Somone must have a different interpretation of 'cricket is a funny game' to select a B grade side to play in an international event. What is wrong with these people?

Go-on prove me wrong....please, please do.

Note I'm making my call prior to the game unlike our after the event expert.

Denny what exactly are you asking us to prove you wrong with?

(serious question, because i didnt understand your post)

Feb 10, 2025, 16:22

The ‘joke of a team’ gets within an over of beating NZ. If they held their catches they would have won….if they had one more authorative bowler they would have won. Breetzke breaks the record innings for a debutant.

This ‘joke of a team’ put in one of the gutsiest performances we have seen from the Proteas.

You are excused the mountain Hysteria….let’s call it a Signal Hill of egg.

Any thoughts from competent posters on Breetzke? Quite the accomplishment

Feb 10, 2025, 23:58

Breetzke was unbelievable.

Never rated him too much. I hope I am again proven wrong.

Denny, don't feel too upset.

This problem isnt unique to CSA. It's a worldwide problem with all the T20 leagues interfering with international selections.

Feb 11, 2025, 08:28

Chippo

I hear you about T20 leagues but there's enough talent in CSA to get around the problem, on paper that team lacked a couple of good specialist batsmen as well as a couple of decent strike bowlers. Give your team a fighting chance. Bavuma for example is same old, same old, denying a young up and coming batter a chance.....what was wrong with Lhuan-dre Gilbert Pretorius and Rubin Hermann? Bowlers..Ngidi is another tried and tested plodder, he is not a front line strike bowler and needs a user friendly wicket to assist if not he'll struggle to buy a wicket. What's wrong with Hardus Viljoen who gets it up to 147km/h instead of Dalabala who is another proven average bowler. Corbin Bosch is a better choice than Ngidi.

The kiwis had the better of the wicket, take a bow Matthew Breetzke who batted through the first 10 overs on a sticky wicket after which it settled down and flattened out. With a bit of luck there might be a future for this kid.

And yes you're right there's a thick slice of cricket talent coming through in CSA. I'm not upset, it's irritating when opportunity was wasted as with this game.

Moffie, thanx for making my point .....'The ‘joke of a team’ gets within an over of beating NZ. If they held their catches they would have won….if they had one more authorative bowler they would have won.

LMAO!

Which brings me to one of your earlier statements....'South Africa doesn't produce that kind of player anymore.' Actually we do......Dewald Brevis......is another and potentially there's a few more.

Care to withdraw your statement or is that pompous ego of yours going to go into denial?

And oh do yourself a favour and get to know the players names other than your pet hate 'Ock'

Feb 11, 2025, 15:40

Hysteria I never make your point….you are always wrong. Your point above is this team had no right to be on the park, but they were within an over of pulling an upset for the ages.

Signal Hill is too small….a Lion’s Head of egg.

Best to keep pasting the thoughts of others.

Feb 11, 2025, 17:01

Lol, true

Feb 12, 2025, 04:22

Hysteria I never make your point….you are always wrong.

Moffie, you are never wrong, hindsight is a perfect science, as I've said you're a genius after the event.

Thing is I make my predictions prior to the event and in this case after scrolling through the selection of the team I noted that other than Bavuma there were no specialist batsmen of note, that two batsmen were on debut and to make matters worse that the attack left a lot to be desired. It was obvious the team was set up for a loss.......and they did....I'd made the right call. You can spin it all you want 'should've', 'could've,' 'if' it doesn't change my prediction which was 100% spot on.

Let that sink in.

Now I know you always need to win an argument and that you're absolutely thrilled by the support of your lapdogs and that you'd never admit to making a mistake but Moffie you're really are embarrassing yourself.

First embarrassment: 'Any thoughts from competent posters on Breetzke?

What about your thoughts? It clearly shows that you didn't even know he existed and that once again you're gleaning knowledge from this forum.

Moffie, have you seen any posters screaming for Breetzke's inclusion to the national side or even worse have you or anyone else even seen his name mentioned in this forum?

However, only a world authority would have guessed that Breetske would score 150 runs on debut LMAO!

Second embarrassment: Here, this from Chippo......'This problem isnt unique to CSA. It's a worldwide problem with all the T20 leagues interfering with international selections.' In other words Moffie, debutant Breetzke would not have been selected if it wasn't for the interference caused by the T20 scheduling of the Proteas. Just to labour the point before you start stomping your feet and carrying on like the windbag that you are, under normal circumstances Breetske's role would have been filled by Ryan Rickelton and his opening partner Rassie van der Dussen.

Third embarrassment: Just to validate my call....."Corbin Bosch is a better choice than Ngidi' has now been belatedly included to the squad.

And finally I ask again, care to respond to another of your foot shoots?

Which brings me to one of your earlier statements....'South Africa doesn't produce that kind of player anymore.' Actually we do......Dewald Brevis and Ryan Rickelton straight out of the starting blocks ...... potentially there's a few more.

Care to withdraw your statement or is that pompous ego of yours going to do an ostrich'?

Game, set and match.

Hysteria, being such a defender of human rights, don’t you think it’s bad form to ape your master and call me “Moffie”. Bit of a bigot unless your own form of discrimination is involved.

Perhaps Hypocrisy would be more apt than Hysteria.

Feb 12, 2025, 07:49

Hey, remember when Moz succinctly summed up Quintie?

Literally cut right down to the bone of what the problem with his technique is...

That's the difference between people who understand the game versus people that post numbers and names.

In all the years Denise has posted here, she has NEVER given us any indication that she understands the game. No in-game prediction, so summation or discussion of any technique...nada.

No greater evidence to the contrary than her bemusedly asking "How did Petersen take wickets if not with swing?"...

...and then lying through her teeth and telling us it was a wind-up.

Not only am I convinced that Denise barely played the game, I don't think she even really watches much of it.

"don’t you think it’s bad form to ape your master and call me “Moffie”.

Lapdog personified

Feb 12, 2025, 07:57

"...and then lying through her teeth and telling us it was a wind-up."

LMAO ... the biggest lie of the year

Feb 12, 2025, 11:13

Denny

Most teams around the world have to do it.

Look at the current Aussie team in Sri Lanka.

You cannot honestly tell me that that is their first choice ODI team?

Fraser-McGurk, Cooper Connolly, Matthew Short, Aaron Hardie, Johnson... i mean honestly...

McGurk averages in the teens in all formats.

Canoli is average at best... for now.

Johnson has hardly proven himself

So my point is, it isnt unique to SA.

Feb 12, 2025, 12:28

So my point is, it isnt unique to SA.

Didn't say it was and as I've said I get your point.

My point is are we picking our next best? Corbin Bosch you would have noticed is a belated addition and he makes for an interesting selection. I would also have preferred Hardus Viljoen. That's the bowling sorted.

See my two choices as batsmen.

Edit: Starc has withdrawn from the Champions trophy for family reasons.
