The Irish rugby squad faces a tense wait as James Lowe's availability for the remainder of the Six Nations hangs in the balance due to a groin injury. The star winger, who shone in the recent triumph over Italy, was forced out of the game against England at Twickenham, barely 18 minutes after kickoff, casting a shadow over Ireland's campaign.

Head coach Andy Farrell didn't mince words about the severity of Lowe's situation, remarking to reporters,

"It didn’t look too good. It is what it is."

The injury could potentially sideline Lowe for critical upcoming matches, including a pivotal clash with Wales.

However, not all news from the camp is grim. Jack Conan is on the mend from an illness and is expected to resume full training soon. His return could provide a much-needed boost to the Irish pack, especially after he was a last-minute scratch from the England game, with Cian Prendergast stepping in.

Amidst these developments, Ireland has released eleven players back to their clubs for the upcoming United Rugby Championship fixtures during the Six Nations break. Those heading back include Harry Byrne, Nathan Doak, Edwin Edogbo, Tom Farrell, Cormac Izuchukwu, Michael Milne, Darragh Murray, Jude Postlethwaite, Cian Prendergast, Tom Stewart, and Bryn Ward.

The remaining squad members are not off duty, however. They are set to reconvene for a two-day training camp starting Wednesday, as they commence preparations for their next Six Nations encounter against Wales at the Principality Stadium on March 6.

Despite the setbacks, Ireland's spirits are buoyed by their recent performance against England, which has propelled them to third in the Six Nations standings, just six points shy of the frontrunners, France. The Irish team remains optimistic about their title chances, as reflected in Captain Caelan Doris's philosophy:

"What will be, will be,"

said Doris. "We’ve got a final week. We’ll review the start of the competition, see how much we’ve grown. The important part is to keep doing that in the last two weeks."

As the tournament progresses, the blend of injury concerns and returning players will test the depth and resilience of the Irish squad, shaping their quest for Six Nations glory.
