An important game for both teams.

Nov 08, 2024, 20:49

Losing Beauden is big for NZ as is Corey at 2

We need the Kiwi’s to win this but I can’t see it - hope I’m wrong

But Furlong is a big loss for Ireland

Nov 08, 2024, 21:00

Who's the little hobbit greeting the players?

Nov 08, 2024, 21:02

James Lowe really serious about whatever he is chewing there.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:02

He's the president of Ireland.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:03

Come on All Blacks!

Nov 08, 2024, 21:05

You can have the haka but then we get to sing two anthems . . .

Nov 08, 2024, 21:06

He's the president of Ireland.

LOL. My bad I guess :D

Nov 08, 2024, 21:07

Oh no, it's drizzling.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:11

Ratima very slow and Jordan knocks on under pressure.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:12

Can't understand why Cortez Ratima starts ahead of the impressive Cam Roigard.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:12

Ratima is so slow.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:15

Poor pass Bundi

Nov 08, 2024, 21:17

Chance for points for Ireland. Penalty for obstructive running right in front.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:17

ABs penalised for obstructing the chaser. Questionable but Ireland have a shot here . . . and Crowley converts. 3-0.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:18

Doris vs Sititi should be a great contest tonight.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:18

3-0 Ireland

Nov 08, 2024, 21:19

Wasn't that a knock on from Ratima? Not called and now the ABs have a kickable penalty.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:19

All lineout throws so far have looked skewed to me. Ratima breaks away.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:20

All Blacks now have a penalty in front.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:20

DMac nails it. 3-3.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:20

Strange call by ref

Nov 08, 2024, 21:22

Second Bundi mistake

Nov 08, 2024, 21:22

Bundee Aki drops a sitter . . .

Nov 08, 2024, 21:23

Bundee knocks. Not a good start for him.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:24

Rartima throws another shocking pass and ABs lose possession.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:25

Maybe the Haka put some tears of longing in Bundee's eyes. Handbags.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:27

Irish haven't been competitive under the high ball so far.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:28

Now Ireland penalised for obstructing the chaser. Tough kick so DMac kicks for touch but it's a poor one, only on the 22.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:28

Ireland now penalized for obstruction at the high ball.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:29

Super tackle by Ringrose on Ioane.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:30

Keenan showing Ford how to tackle Telea down the touchline.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:33

ABs could have scored if DMac had passed . . .

Nov 08, 2024, 21:34

Gibson-Park is a terrier.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:34

Fabulous tackle Gibson-Park

Nov 08, 2024, 21:35

Sititi wins a turnover and Ireland penalised for holding on.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:35

Sititi with the turnover penalty.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:37

All Blacks dominating at the moment.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:37

Now Bundi gives away the penalty….and NZ blow the lineout throw

Nov 08, 2024, 21:37

Now it's a penalty against Ireland for offside and DMac goes for touch . . . ABs on the attack . . . but now the ref pings them for a skew throw after allowing at least one skew Irish throw earlier.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:38

ABs have looked the better side thus far.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:40

Irish scrum struggling.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:41

ABs on the attack but DMac knocks on . . . ref going back for AB penalty for a no-arm tackle.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:42

DMac goes for poles this time . . . and it's over. ABs have a deserved lead.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:42

Berry misses NZ pushing early

Nov 08, 2024, 21:44

Ireland getting zero change out of kickoffs and high balls.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:44

They'd do better to keep it in hand, just kicking all their possession to NZ.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:46

Very scrappy game considering all the hype about these being the top two sides . . .

Nov 08, 2024, 21:46

Kickable penalty but Ireland goes for touch.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:47

Aki loses possession again…but looks dubious

Nov 08, 2024, 21:47

Berry missing a lot here . . . but TMO corrects the last blunder.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:48

Ireland maul not moving an inch. Aki spilling the ball on the ground again, feeding a NZ counterattack.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:49

Another penalty NZ.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:51

Another kickable penalty for the ABs . . . DMac kicks it and it's 9-3.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:53

Ireland 35% possession…not in the game.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:53

9-3. Ireland may regret not taking the points when they were on offer.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:53

Now Ireland get a kickable penalty. Very messy game. Jordie Barrett might be in trouble here for a high tackle.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:53

Yes Ireland has been a shadow of their World Cup quality.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:54

Yellow for Jordie. Under review.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:54

Yellow for Jordie.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:54

Bundi comes right…nice break….Barrett yellow.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:56

Crowley converts. 9-6. Half time and the ABs will be down a man for the first 10 minutes of the second half.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:57

Pretty forgettable first half. Not sure this is going to be worth staying up until midnight.

Nov 08, 2024, 21:57

Chance for Ireland to get some control back.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:00

What's the odds the ABs complete a clean sweep on this EOYT ?

Nov 08, 2024, 22:05

Not bad right now.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:06

Yet again the ABs shit in their own nest with a regular yellow card. They have been a hard watch for me in 2024! Poor handling so far. Hope it picks up in the 2nd half.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:09

With all that possession NZ teams would typically have scored at least one try.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:13

Immediate kickable penalty for Ireland, again they go for touch.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:14

And the ABs somehow take the ball from them in the maul. They have a scrum 5 though.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:14

Try Ireland. Josh van de Vlier scores.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:15

Doris sets Ireland up for the try…yellow costly for NZ.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:16

Try Ireland, Van Der Flier. They look a little more fired up now.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:16

13-9

Nov 08, 2024, 22:17

Another cracking tackle by Gibson-Park.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:19

Ireland finally recovers a high ball but get penalized at the ruck.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:21

13-12

Nov 08, 2024, 22:21

Roigard on for Ratima.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:23

Jordie back, Ratima off and Roigard on.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:25

Aaaand Ireland knocks again just as they get rolling.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:29

DMac with a chance to regain the lead from just inside Ireland's half . . . off the upright.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:29

Penalty NZ. Just kickable.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:30

Telea the best in the world? I’ll take Kolbe.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:31

Frawley on for Crowley at 10. Some forward replacements for Ireland as well.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:32

Telea is good if you tackle like shit.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:34

Great take by Jordan in that play.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:35

DMac gets another chance to take the lead . . . slightly closer this time . . . it's over. ABs lead 15-13.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:36

Some strange calls going against Ireland.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:39

Ireland not getting things right out back.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:39

Another penalty to the ABs . . . another shot at goal . . . it's over. 18-13.

Come on All Blacks!

Nov 08, 2024, 22:40

Another penalty NZ. Should be 3 more.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:40

DMac dialed in on the iicks

Nov 08, 2024, 22:43

Ardie throws a weak final pass that should have seen Telea score, but now Will Jordan scores on the other wing. Game over?

Nov 08, 2024, 22:44

Man over, All Blacks should score but Ireland somehow gets there. Over to the other side though and Jordan goes over.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:45

Probably game over, Ireland doesn't look like they can get their act together.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:45

Frawley having a shocker. Why didn't he have this kind of a game in Durban?

Nov 08, 2024, 22:46

Now Frawley drops the high ball under no pressure.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:46

Farrel uses a four letter word associated with ‘me’.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:49

Super clearance Lowe off a nothing kick by Jordan. Ireland in the NZ 22.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:50

"Farrel uses a four letter word associated with ‘me’."

You'll have to be more specific, Moffie. I can think of several four letter words I'd associate with you.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:51

Ardie stops Ireland's assault with a turnover penalty.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:53

Ireland in a good attacking position now . . . they need to score here.

Nov 08, 2024, 22:58

Game over. Well played All Blacks!

See you all again Sunday!

Go Bokke!

Nov 08, 2024, 22:59

23-13 All Blacks. They were okay, Ireland was terrible. Forgettable game.

Nov 08, 2024, 23:00

Disappointing Irish effort, strange reffing decisions, NZ the better team on the day.

Nov 08, 2024, 23:02

Ugly game but I’ll take it.

Nov 09, 2024, 00:38

Congrats to the ABs, they won a scrappy game y grinding it out! Well done boys!?? I’m sure Beeno is full of praise also??

Nov 09, 2024, 00:38

Congrats to the ABs, they won a scrappy game y grinding it out! Well done boys!?? I’m sure Beeno is full of praise also??

Nov 09, 2024, 08:05

Sorry Just win but I haven't watched the game. Have been enjoying Trump nuking the Demonrats. I see Nevada called for Trump and he is 6.4 percent ahead in Arizona and will easily take the state. A 312 Electoral College landslide. ??????. But lots of cheating going on in the Senate races in these two states.

From the comments above it appear the wee abs were mediocre in beating an off form Irish side with some questionable ref calls according to Mozzie. .

Anyhow I hope the Oaks found some enjoyment in the game.

I also note what an enthusiastic wee a supporter Rooitwit is. What a turn coat this grunter is. Hahahahahaha.

Nice to see you on the board again JW. :D

Nov 09, 2024, 11:32

Slippery conditions today and tight defence, both teams want to play but just couldn't get any momentum.

Wall ABs, two games in a row that you stuck in there and improved in the final quarter. Thanks for getting back the top spot for us.

I think the all blacks will be back next season now that their team is settling and a new coach.

Plenty of young talent in the pack. Just need to find a couple of locks now.

Nov 09, 2024, 13:03

The Kiwis had far more direction when they replaced their 9

Irish counter rucking was very effective - don’t know why more sides don’t do that more

Nothing in that game good on the Kiwis for putting the Irish to bed and silencing all that crap about them being the best side out there

Nov 09, 2024, 14:18

"The Kiwis had far more direction when they replaced their 9"

Agree. Cortez Ratima was hopeless. His almost always takes a few steps before he passes and his passes are generally looping chest-high lobs that arrive at the receiver the same time as the defender. I'm surprised this plodder is even on the AB radar. Cam Roigard's flat, knee-high passes made an immediate difference.

By contrast, Jamieson Gibson-Park was Ireland's best player and the difference in quality of the two scrumhalves was the reason Ireland were even in the game at all.

Nov 09, 2024, 14:31

There are 4 even teams in rugby. In recent times Ireland has the wood on  the Boks. The Boks in turn have dominated NZ and NZ has won their big games against Ireland. France is less clear, perhaps we’ll get a bit more clarity when NZ play them.

This was our year….the easiest YE tour schedule and both matches against the ABs played in South Africa.

Next year will be tougher. And NZ will be more settled. The key players in the Bok team will be another year older and our coach who is decisive about tactics, seems unable to pick a team.

Hopefully Sacha will be part of our response, a genuinely exciting flyhalf who was from the manor born in his first test.

Nov 09, 2024, 15:01

". . . a genuinely exciting flyhalf who was from the manor born in his first test."

Moffie, did you mean "to the manor born" or is this some variation of the phrase that means something else?

Nov 09, 2024, 15:17

(Sic) coming from somebody who uses (sic) inside quotes that’s funny. Look at this program it might help:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13884920/

From the Manor

Nov 09, 2024, 15:18

Once again…..down in flames…..hahaha.

Nov 09, 2024, 15:28

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahaha!

Not for the first time, Moffie displays his ignorance and - also not for the first time - when I try to educate him, he runs off to Google to find an example of someone making the same mistake as he did . . . I mean, if there's an example of this nonsensical statement on the internet then he must be right, yes?

LMAO!

It's "to the manor born", chump. Most educated people know this. What does your version even mean?

Nov 09, 2024, 15:38

An example….hahaha…it’s a 7.8 star rated documentary, starring Glenn Close called From the Manor Born. Do you seriously believe nobody involved in making the film knew the more conventional form is To the Manor Born.

Of course not, they did it deliberately. And is it incorrect English? Nope it’s just different, a choice they made. Less pompous.

I know you are still obsessed with the grammar lessons they taught you in primary school, but the world has moved on. Do watch the ‘sic’s’ inside quotation marks though , they make no sense.

LMAOFY&Y!

Nov 09, 2024, 15:46

Go on then, tell me what it means. Most people know what it means to be born to the manor, what does it mean to be born from the manor?

Or you could just admit that you displayed your ignorance again and thank me for taking the trouble to try and point you in the right direction so you don't embarrass yourself again in the future.

Nov 09, 2024, 15:57

If you could explain what being to the Manor born means that would help….most men are born of woman. Being born to a Manor is an odd, old expression. From the Manor Born clearly means the individual comes from and was born in a manor.

Your play.

Nov 09, 2024, 16:04

"To the manner born” is an expression from Hamlet by William Shakespeare that means someone has refined tastes and habits because they were born into a privileged classIn the play, Hamlet says, “Though I am native here and to the manner born, it is a custom more honor'd in the breach than the observance"

LMAO! Are you saying Shakespeare got it wrong and you're right, Moffie? Is that what you're trying to tell us?

Nov 09, 2024, 16:15

ChatGPT:

"To the manor born" means to be born into a privileged or affluent lifestyle, often with the implication that the person is accustomed to wealth, status, or certain social advantages. The phrase originates from English, where it refers to someone who appears naturally suited to a life of luxury or high social standing, as though they were born into it.

The expression became more widely known with the popular British sitcom To the Manor Born, which aired in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In the show, the phrase humorously reflects the life of an aristocratic woman who loses her ancestral estate but retains her noble attitude.

Phrases.org.uk:

"

What's the origin of the phrase 'To the manner born'?

Any examination of ‘to the manner born’ has to include a mention of its often-quoted incarnation, ‘to the manor born’. That has a similar meaning but stresses manorial birth, that is, it refers to someone born into the nobility.

The ‘manner’ version is earlier and there’s some debate amongst etymologists as to whether the second of these phrases was coined deliberately as a play on words, or whether it is just a misspelling of ‘manner’ as ‘manor’. The third possibility, that they arose independently, is highly unlikely.

‘To the manner born’ was used by, and probably coined by, Shakespeare, in Hamlet, 1602:

HORATIO:     Is it a custom?

HAMLET:      Ay, marry, is’t:
But to my mind, though I am native here
And to the manner born, it is a custom
More honour’d in the breach than the observance.

The meaning there is clear. Hamlet knows the custom being spoken of because he is native, that is, born locally.

Hamlet was written in or around 1600 and published in 1603. The ‘manor’ version comes much later. The earliest reference I’ve found so far is in The Times, July 1859, in a story about the Emperor of France’s visit to Austria:

“Before Solferino, Austria was only an intruder in Italy; now she is as one ‘to the manor born’.”

To the Manor Born is the name of a popular BBC comedy series that was broadcast in 1979. The final episode had the highest audience for a single UK TV show at the time, which accounts for some of the penetration of this version of the phrase into the language. The show’s scriptwriter, Christopher Bond, would certainly have been aware of the line in Hamlet when he adopted the title and it’s clear that he used the ‘manner/manor’ play on words knowingly.

The question is, did ‘to the manor born’ originally become adopted because of a play on words or by mistake?

It would appear to be a simple mistake. Some people may have been aware is the ‘manner’ spelling but it’s hardly credible that everyone did. The ‘manor’ version of the phrase is now far more popular in the language than the earlier one. Examples of its use make it clear that the distinction between ‘manner’ and ‘manor’ is now being lost. Given the closeness of the meaning of the two phrases, they have now become virtually interchangeable.

There are many examples of such errors, where words are replaced by plausible, similar-sounding alternatives. In fact, this is so common a linguistic form as to have been given a name – eggcorn. This name was coined in 2003 following the example of a misspelling of acorn as egg corn. If you know that acorns are egg-shaped but aren’t sure how the word is pronounced, ‘eggcorn’ would be a reasonable guess.

‘To the manor born’ makes sense, as people born in manors could be expected to be born into a life of pre-determined affluence. The existence of the previous phrase ‘born with a silver spoon in one’s mouth‘, would also tend to have made the ‘manor’ phrase intuitive. It may well have been coined by mistake but, given its adoption into the language, it’s perhaps overly strict to label it as incorrect. It could now be viewed as an example of how language mutates with time."

Nov 09, 2024, 16:25

LMAO! Are you saying Shaekespeare got it wrong’. He used ‘manner’…not ‘manor’, old chap.

So no I’m not saying Shaekespeare (sic), got it wrong. I’m saying language evolves.

But Chat suggests the subsequent evoloving of ‘to the Manor born’ was the result of a mistake, time to move on.

Thanks that was helpful.

Nov 09, 2024, 16:28

Stay down Moffie . . .

Nov 09, 2024, 16:40

Hilarious…..you wanted me to use an expression that was the result of a spelling mistake. And clearly you never knew Shakespeare created ‘to the manner born’ when you asked me to use ‘to the manor born’….and you botched his name.

How many flubs is that…three?

Nov 09, 2024, 16:44

LMAO!

Stay down, eggface.

Nov 09, 2024, 17:03

Admit you never knew Shaekespeare(sic) wrote ‘to the manner born’. Be honest now. I’m not sure if you knew the correct spelling of his name, but I see you have edited your gaff….,hahaha!

Nov 09, 2024, 17:07

Tell you what, eggface, I know Shakespeare never wrote "from the manner born".

Ignorant, poorly educated fool!

LMAO!

Nov 09, 2024, 17:26

Well deserved win by the AB …. There scrum was performing well and laid the foundation for there win.

The Irish just couldn’t get into a groove and there error rate didn’t help.. they really missed Tagh Furlong tonight.

But they are a class outfit and will be back. Congrats AB for the win in Ireland which is special as many teams don’t get that right.

Nov 09, 2024, 18:25

Yes you thought he wrote ‘to the manor born’….until you googled it. Game, set and match again.

Nov 09, 2024, 18:30

LMAO!

Stay down, eggface.

Nov 09, 2024, 19:18

So let’s recap. I made a perfectly neutral post and used the term from the Manor Born. Perfectly good English, totally understandable, but not the most common usage.

A bomb goes off in your brain and you insist on ‘to the manor born’ . I prove to you from the Manor Born is used in the title of a significant documentary, so in general use.

You then quote Shakespeare….misspell his name….and put in manor instead of ‘manner’. Two errors you correct, but clearly in pushing ‘to the manor born’ vs Shakespeare’s ‘to the manner born’ you knew nothing of the Shakespeare quote. And it turns out Chat GTP who you stupidly quote without checking,  rules that ‘to the manor born’ was a simple mistake.

Everything you did pretty much backfired. And it was all so unnecessary, just another example of an unprovoked ‘gotcha’ attack gone wrong.

What’s the compulsion I wonder. Have you ever sought help, it might change what’s left of miserable life.

Nov 09, 2024, 19:47

Here's a slightly different recap . . . Moffie displays his ignorance, Rooinek corrects Moffie's laughably ignorant mistake and points out that Moffie has copiouis amounts of egg sliding down his stupid face. Moffie quickly Googles  the nonsensical "from the manor born", gets a hit and starts trumpeting his victory . . . secretly knowing he's made a complete dick of himself again but keeping up the pretence to try and save face.

Somehow, I think my version is a lot more accurate.

LMAO!

"From the manor born" . . . Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahaha!

Nov 09, 2024, 22:34

Oh your version where you pompously thought Shakespeare wrote ‘to the manor born’, whereas he actually wrote ‘to the manner born’.

Nope what happened here is just another foot shoot. As I told you before I just have to give you some rope….or is that  enough rope.

Waaaahaha…clearly I gave you enough rope….enjoy your egg.
