Jack Carty, the emblematic fly-half of Connacht and former Ireland international, has declared his impending retirement following a prolific 15-season career with the Irish province. Known as Connacht's all-time leading scorer, Carty has amassed 1,260 points over 231 matches and earned 11 caps for Ireland, including three appearances in the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

Recently starring in Connacht's unexpected victory over Ulster in the United Rugby Championship, Carty has propelled his team to ninth place in the standings. This season still holds promise with important fixtures ahead, including a Challenge Cup showdown against the Sharks in Galway.

Reflecting on his illustrious tenure, Carty expressed a mix of nostalgia and gratitude.

"After 15 seasons with my boyhood club, all good things understandably have to come to an end. As I reflect back on my time in Connacht, I feel fortunate to have been a part of the transformation we have all witnessed,"

Carty remarked. His journey witnessed highs such as the PRO12 triumph, international duty, and the opening of Dexcom Stadium, alongside personal growth through various challenges.

Carty didn’t miss the opportunity to acknowledge the significant influence of Connacht CEO Willie Ruane on both his career and the club’s fortunes.

"I know he will hate being name-checked, but it would be amiss not to thank Willie Ruane. From him, I learned that Connacht rugby transcends the sport,"

he stated, highlighting the profound impact of leadership behind the scenes.

Stuart Lancaster, Connacht's head coach, praised Carty's contributions, noting his profound impact on the team and province. "Jack’s an excellent rugby player and just as good a person, who leads by example and commands the respect of all who work with him," Lancaster said. He emphasized the critical role Carty will continue to play as Connacht pushes for success in the remaining season.

As Carty prepares to conclude his professional rugby career, his legacy at Connacht appears secure, not only through his record-breaking feats on the field but also through his exemplary character and leadership off it. His story remains a beacon of inspiration for aspiring athletes in Connacht and beyond.
