As the Rugby Championship heads to its climax at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus is poised to maintain his lineup against Argentina, following a dominant 67-30 win in Durban. Former Springboks centre Jean de Villiers teases that Erasmus might still have a trick up his sleeve, hinting at a strategic surprise no one sees coming.

Despite carrying momentum from a historic trouncing of the All Blacks and battling through injuries, Erasmus' squad has shown remarkable cohesion and depth. "Rassie sticks with the current team and probably goes with a 7-1 and does something that no one is thinking about at the moment," de Villiers shared on the Good, Bad and Rugby AUNZ podcast. The resilience of the Springboks' bench, which has been instrumental in their recent performances, especially shines through in this high-stakes match.

"I can’t see him going away from the team that started at the weekend,"

Injuries to key players like Cheslin Kolbe, Ethan Hooker, and Thomas du Toit may not sway Erasmus' selections greatly, given the seamless integration of replacements so far in the tournament. This squad depth not only covers for physical absences but also continues to exert pressure well into the latter stages of games.

The spotlight often falls on starting fly-half Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, whose spectacular 37-point game against Los Pumas was a tournament highlight. Yet de Villiers points out the substantial impact of substitute Manie Libbok, whose dynamic play further invigorates the Springboks' offensive strategy. "When Manie Libbok came on, he was fizzing the ball, and the attacking nature of the team was totally different with him on the field," de Villiers noted, underscoring the luxury of having such depth.

As the final team selection looms, a minor adjustment has been made with Lood de Jager stepping in for the bereaved Franco Mostert. With the title in sight and a strategy that has consistently outplayed their rivals, the Springboks are a formidable force, fully equipped and ready to conclude this year’s Rugby Championship on a high note.
