In a bold move signaling a new chapter for the Sharks, the Durban-based club has solidified JP Pietersen's role as the permanent head coach after a successful interim tenure. This appointment is part of a broader strategic overhaul aimed at propelling the team to new heights.

Pietersen stepped into the interim role following John Plumtree's departure and quickly demonstrated his capability to steer the team forward. "JP’s appointment is a natural progression and a decision we are extremely confident in," explained Sharks CEO Shaun Bryans. "He has proven that he is the right man for the job, building on the strong foundations laid down by his predecessor."

"This jersey has shaped who I am. The Sharks have given me everything in my career, so to be entrusted with leading this team is something I do not take lightly. I am incredibly proud, but more than that, I am hungry to keep pushing this group forward."

The restructuring doesn't stop with Pietersen. The Sharks have also brought on Scott Mathie as the new attack coach and Dave Williams as the General Manager. Mathie's local roots and international experience are expected to enrich the team's strategy on the field. Meanwhile, Williams will oversee the strategic direction and operational oversight of all high-performance functions.

Rory Duncan joins the leadership team as Chief of Staff, a role crafted to enhance governance and strategic coordination across the club's various arms. Neil Powell has been appointed Head of Junior Rugby, tasked with nurturing the next generation of talent through the Sharks Academy and Junior teams.

The club's controlling owner, Marco Masotti, emphasized the ambition driving these changes: "Our goal is a rugby business that ensures that The Sharks compete for a trophy in every competition that we play in including the Investec Champions Cup and likely World Club Cup."

To further support these ambitions, the Sharks have introduced new departments focusing on Medical Health & Recovery, Athletic Performance, Data, AI & Analytics, Operations & Logistics, Technique & Skills, and Player Affairs & Culture, reflecting a holistic approach to player development and performance optimization.

With these strategic moves, the Sharks are clearly setting the stage for a renewed push towards rugby excellence, both on and off the field.
