Fuck me we really let it slip in that first half when it could have been that much closer

Nothing in the scrums - one penalty each, with ours being a dominant push back while theirs was Malherbe knee on the ground.

Their first try was the Willie tackle on Jordan who recovers and sets up Smith. Willie should have held on or Mapimpi instead of trying to shove Ione he could have paid more attention to Jordan and stopped his reset

The second AB try has a chip kick into a circle of Boks with the ball bouncing into Jordan’s hands - rub of the green.

Bongi slow off the pace leaves a gap and Willie gets smashed. Poor attempt by Willie

Then we have two Bok tries that could have been - the Kolbe one looked good to me and then Eben over or so close to the line.

If those two calls had gone our way - different ball game in the second half, especially considering the fluke Jordan try in the second half

Willie, Faf, Willemse, Lood and Kitshoff were our best players in the first half.

Willie is getting some stick for missing those two tackles, but they were the highest degree of difficulty. Jordan who is quick had lots of space but Willie got him. Trouble is Willie’s momentum was going towards the touchline and Jordan’s momentum was going forward. It was hard to hang on. He should have had support from Mapimpi.

The second was a head on tackle of a loosie at full tilt 2 metres from his line…damn hard to stop all momentum dead, he should probably have taken a few steps forward rather than hunkering down.

No lesson learned.

Tries can usually be related to mistakes.

It is ironical that supporters of a side whose main offer usually is to milk penalties dismiss that statement.

Whatever mistake that were, they came from NZ imposing SA rugby a certain way of playing.

NZ converted mistakes into tries.

As for reffing, it is another unneeded occurrence of the reliance on favourable reffing.

SA rugby attempts to try were unclean. They were dubious. Yet they should have been validated.

No lesson learnt.

NZ is preparing for the WC. They structured their victory in a very positive way. Laying out solid blueprints for a quarter final against SA rugby, giving them training to cruise through it.

Cruise is a key word as from the quarter finals, in rugby, it is all about managing oneself, avoid overspending.

NZ did not overspend themselves, they cruised to victory. They went out unscathed.

I think the two tackles Willie made would be really harsh to criticise him. He got Jordan to the deck, just that Jordan had street smarts to release the ball, get app and to continue. Mpimpi is useless. didn't compete for the ball like he should have.

The chip kick was brilliant by the All Blacks, they showed a lot of variation, and everything the did came off.

The boks defence was really poor. Bongi was the main culprit for creating dog legs in defence and slipping tackles. Not to mention his poor throwing. Him and Wiese along Malherbe lost any momentum. We couldn't get our hands on the ball. Not to mention Willemse moronic quick throw and Wiese poor attempt at a catch to know it on.

Willie is 90 kg on a good day, he had to cover and got in front of ht player but frizzle drop his arm and did a classic Samoa side step. Don't think many players would have stopped him.

The All Blacks were brilliant and completely dismantled the boks in th first 20 min. They shut the boks out in the 2nd half and held their own.

We can't carry on like this. It is too late to try and correct the ship now.

The 2003 England team was called dads army, but for 15 months straight they did not drop a game. They went to New Zealand and won a very close game. That team was battle hardened and had confidence that they would win.

The boks need to win every single game now, no chance of slipping like they did.

Yes Saffex there rely was nothing in this game in actual fact

Glad some of the oaks are wising up. Obviously emotions are subsiding and logic and reason are beginning to kick in.

The more immature still getting there!

Beeno had it right from the get go. :D

Agreed Moz, Willie’s tackle on Jordan was good and yes Mapimpi instead of trying to be macho should have had his eye on the game and stopped Jordan

Willie had no chance against Fiz - Bongi being off the pace as he has been all season plus the rub of the green with Jordan collecting the chip ahead accounted for that second try

But why was the Kolbe try not awarded and I’m not convinced Eben did not get over the line - if he did not he should have

Eben given the circumstances was flat on the day not his usual dominant self

All things considered thst second half should have been closer and with the way we switched up in the second that result could have been so different

The All Blacks deserved the game....no question.... bloody well done

Regarding all the teams in the RC..... I have to ask if all the players are really going to put their bodies on the line, with the world cup just around the corner....

How many players are genuinely willing to risk injury, by going 110% during this rugby championship....

I assume they are professional enough to do it, but it must be in the back of their minds at all times, that a simple slip up, could result in another 4 year wait to go to a world cup

It must be at the back of their minds. Especially at the beginning of a match. Later the competitive instincts kick in more.

The Bok lineup has so few certainties that the incentive is strong to give more now. Our entire midfield is debatable, wings, loose forwards, and front row. Great isn't it. Years to prepare for this moment and they are throwing spaghetti at the wall.

Teams that don't respect the Boks have been doing well against us.

We can't force teams to play how we want them to and the less they respect us, the less they play how we'd prefer.

The other side of the coin is NZ, they can force you to play their way and will beat you.

It's weird because on paper the professional era should have suited how the Boks want to play the game...slower, tighter. Sure, we've won WCs, but NZ has dominated otherwise and have the same amount of WC wins.

Let's leave out any other factors that may be responsible for NZ running the show.

The bottom line is their overall game-plan.

If they want to run, you can't do a great deal about it but try to turn them over or hope they fumble. They're just always punching and sooner or later something lands.

If feels to me as though the Boks want to plot a trajectory and have committee meetings about every 1m of ground they're hoping to gain.

NZ don't give you time to think. The current Boks send out multiple RSVPs before they arrive.

That's what Saturday felt like to me.

We were totally outplayed by the AB with a superior Game Plan….so to think that this was close because of a bit of a fight back in the second half, is silly….this game proved yet again that we are not on par with the top teams….Rassie is not a genius but a idiot for making the same mistakes over and over again….how should a person have any confidence in this Setup….it’s only made us drop to 4 on the rankings and a Team mostly made up out of Grandpa’s….if we win at WC I will eat my socks, but the way we are carrying on ATM, the chances are very slim!! We need to win all remaining games before the WC, so our confidence will be nice and high.

Jul 18, 2023, 12:26

Winning a WC is a short term achievement. We were poor throughout 2019, and into 2021. But blips like that can buy a poor coach time. It'll be much harder this time around, and we look even worse, if one can imagine that. Rugby has been at a low point in general, but we don't look like upper tier material. We are trailing for defence, set pieces and aerial stats. Pillars of any successful campaign. Some food for thought.

Apart from the fact NZ rehearsed a potential quart finals against SA rugby (that winning while committing the least possible), injuries in rugby are too a part of daily events to think of cutting down so much.

Injuries happen no matter what.

Again, NZ players avoided putting their bodyon the line as they played in the required way.

Has nothing to do with RC close to WC.

Some thoughts on various points:

>Dave….the Kolbe non  try was purely a matter of opinion. The video ref decided it wasn’t, his opinion, whether that opinion was biased who knows. Personally I thought the ball only went forward after it hit the ground and Kolbe’s hand appeared to be exerting downward pressure on the point of the ball.

> Plum….we can and have occasionally put sand in the AB works by controlling the ruck. Not easy, but the only way to stop them….they are always going to be dangerous with quick ball.

>DA…..agree the top players will shut it down now. Those on the bubble will try harder but all the games are compromised. We could easily lose to the Bargies away as a result, won’t mean much.

"Plum….we can and have occasionally put sand in the AB works by controlling the ruck. Not easy, but the only way to stop them….they are always going to be dangerous with quick ball."

Not nearly enough sand though.

Feels like we're always one step behind them, even when we manage to beat them a couple of times.

We should start being dangerous with quick ball too. There is nothing to suggest that our talent pool is bereft of the skills required to do so.

Jul 18, 2023, 14:16

Maybe it's just me....or maybe I am being far too critical.... but I also see us as nowhere near inventive or creative when we get advantage....

Compared to other teams, especially the Aussies and the All Blacks.... who at least try something with the ball, or a different tactic..... we are just dull and unimaginative whilst we are playing advantage

Jul 18, 2023, 15:38

We don't have a high skill level Plum. We are as unsophisticated as ever under Erasputin, and his remedy is to have small and fast runners. We can run fast into space, if it's there, but we still cannot create and those fast players are exceedingly one-dimensional. Speed for strength, power, skill, aerial superiority, defence, and tactical acumen. Not a great trade off of you ask me.
