Wallabies standout Andrew Kellaway is set to light up the field in a rare stint with the Waratahs during their Super Rugby Pacific showdown against the Brumbies in Canberra this Friday. Despite his regular appearances at the international level, including three caps as Australia's starting full-back during last year's European tour, Kellaway has found game time hard to come by with the Waratahs this season. However, an opportunity has arisen for him to shine on the right wing, thanks to a teammate's injury, and Kellaway is determined to seize it.

Earlier this year, Kellaway’s limited participation was highlighted by a challenging match where he donned the number 15 jersey during a devastating 59-19 defeat at home to the Hurricanes. With younger talents like Sid Harvey and James Hendren getting the nod over him, Kellaway has been biding his time, honing his skills and mindset. "It’s been a tough couple of months, so it’s nice to be back in the mix," Kellaway remarked, displaying no resentment towards the selection decisions.

"I’m not the first bloke and won’t be the last to be on the other side of the selection decision, so you’ve got to remember that."

During his downtime, Kellaway played with the Waratahs 'A' side, an experience he found surprisingly enjoyable and enriching, helping him reconnect with the fundamental joys of rugby. "It’s a different approach, a different perspective. It actually was really fun," he shared, choosing to see the positive side of his situation rather than dwelling on the negatives.

"I could sit there and mope and say how s*** it is to sit on the bus for four hours, play a game and get back on the bus, but nobody wins out of that and especially not me."

Despite the lack of appearances under Waratahs' head coach Dan McKellar, Kellaway holds no grudges, recognizing the tough decisions coaches must make. "Dan’s a great coach. He had to drop people and select people in the past and we both know that’s part of the day. At the end of the day, there’s no bad blood there," he explained. As his contract nears its end, Kellaway is eager to demonstrate his continued capability in Super Rugby, not just to others but to himself. "My training form’s been as good as it’s been throughout my career so that’s all I can do and I’m at peace with that," he concluded, a clear testament to his resilience and focus.

With his sights set on redemption and showcasing his undiminished skills, Kellaway’s upcoming performance against the Brumbies could very well redefine his season.
