Get ready for a bruising encounter as Kwagga Smith and the Springboks gear up for a high-stakes showdown with Argentina this Saturday at Durban's Kings Park. With the Rugby Championship title on the line, it's do or die for the Boks.

Smith, known for his relentless energy and prowess at the breakdown, is zeroing in on Argentina's loose forwards, recognizing the need for heightened vigilance. “They have very mobile loose forwards who get around the park, and they are also good at winning turnovers, so we are expecting a big challenge in that department,” Smith explained. Beyond just the loose forwards, he emphasized the overall ferocity of the Argentine pack. “Their pack is physical in general, and they play hard rugby, so they’ll challenge us there this weekend.”

The Springboks seem to have addressed their earlier breakdown blips seen against Italy, Australia, and New Zealand, striking a more effective balance in the back row during their record triumph over the All Blacks—a game that saw Jasper Wiese return at No 8 and captain Siya Kolisi slide back to flanker.

"Bok coaches make you believe"

Despite recent improvements, Smith is not underestimating the Pumas, acknowledging their evolution into a more formidable opponent. “They’ve grown a lot over the last few years, and they have a good balance between senior and younger players, which is a combination that makes them very strong,” he noted.

Smith, who thrives coming off the bench, cherishes every chance he gets to don the green jersey. “For me, it’s to serve the team whether it’s starting or coming off the bench,” he stated. “To make every opportunity count, that’s important to me because you never know when it’s the last time you’re pulling on that green jersey. Every opportunity I get, I try to do my best and also try to enjoy it because we’re not getting any younger.”

As Saturday approaches, the Boks are braced for a rugged test against Los Pumas, with Smith poised to make a significant impact, whether he starts or springs from the bench. It’s a clash that promises not just hard hits but strategic genius, as both teams vie to outplay the other in a critical Rugby Championship bout.
