Libboks's Pole Kicking

Before he has kicked it, It already looks like he is going to miss.
When he puts the ball on the kicking tee, it looks like it is sitting on its side- even when he kicks n front of the poles.

Manie places the ball on the kicking tee, then starts his routine, looks at the ball, then picks it up again. Then replaces it on the tee again.

One of the commentators said that the goal kick countdown at the world cup works against him, because he takes his time with his preparation before finally kicking.

It seems when a kicker runs at more of an angle (more common on the sideline), it is easier to get the direction wrong.

I noticed Sexton was hoofing kicks in front of the poles over with a short run up, and more front on.
Percy Montgomery improved his kicking significantly when he shortened his run up, and also made it more front on.

He should lower his trajectory, aim for the middle area between crossbar & top ..................... jus like all the top kickers.

To late to train a guy at this stage to kick.

Libbok never was a great kicker internationally similiar to Elton.

It's looks like a case of being caught between a rock and a hard place or maybe you damned if you do and damned if you don't i.e. stick with Marnie and the attacking flair he brings to our backline or engage Pollock and hang with a conservative game.

A Marnie's backline would be Williams(Faf on the bench) AE/CM/ Kolbe/ Arendse and Willemse.

A Pollock's backline would be Faf the deadend centre pairing, wings of your choice and Le Roux,

Marnie's downside...obviously his poor goal kicking.

Pollacks downside....our one dimensional Stampkar rugby was rendered useless by Ireland more so since the absence of indispensable Marx.

Manie is our best passing 10, but he shouldn't be the kicker...bringing Pollard in at 10 now is a massive blunder...play Manie and set the game plan to his strength...pick the players around him from those best suiting his style and give the team the freedom to play like they want...fat chance of that ever happening.

Much ado about nothing, kicking the ball over the posts is even simple to a good school team, it's a mindset of men , but young man at school level have no problem, we have become so, so weak. It should never never even become an issue...just shows how much spine where we are at..

Just kick it straight that's all and disregard failure...it always works, 9 times out of 10. Rugby is not a game of Wokes or anything related .

The teams going into the quarters are not stupid they know that he has to try and play a running game so be prepared for him to be hit hard and frequently.

I would be surprised if they did not make him their #1 target which will be either to take him out or close down any chance of him launching a meaning contribution in attack.

Just not the Boks RWC I would suggest.

Trust I am wrong.

Wouldn't give up just yet a lot will hang off Rassie's selections, he's gonna have to find something.

I'll say it again.

The problem in the Irish game was those two ridiculous attempts at goal from +50m.

Every single pundit is saying exactly what I said, during the game, on its thread...kick those two bloody balls to the damn corner.

Those are 6 of the missed 11 points. Leaving 5 on the park wouldn't have been that bad. It's the territorial advantage and dominance that we pissed away which is what cost us.

Ireland where just hanging on at that stage of the game and we let them off the hook by doing exactly the opposite of what we did against the ABs.

Why the F did we even play that way against the ABs if we we're gonna go in a totally different in the WC?

That's a practice match. A match where you are supposed to be testing your strategies and seeing what works. It worked against the ABs, Wales, Australia...worked damn well...and then we suddenly shit ourselves and try go for points from +50m!!!???

Kick to corner, you get a lineout. You apply more pressure. Even if they turn you over at the lineout...they have to clear their lines and you likely get another lineout around their 22, another opportunity for a penalty and to apply more pressure. More time in their half.

I was, and still am absolutely seething about those decisions to kick.

I seriously hope it was a ploy to lose the game by a small margin because we wanted to face France.

If that was the legit gameplan, with no sub-plot, then it's very frightening.

Rasnaber is holding in, keeping us back for the final stretch like a good jockey in the Kentucky Derby...playing the percentages...only putting all the cards on the table when it finally really matters...but it can backfire badly...

Can’t possibly believe Harassmus deliberately “just lost” the Irish game. What if there’d been an intercept try in the 80th minute and the Boks missed out on the bonus point? It was a tight game and the Boks reverted to type by going for penalty goal attempts. As they say, always take the three!

Sep 29, 2023, 09:07

By that stage of the game the coaches already had good stats for how long the ball was in play.

It was something like 26 minutes for the entire game.

Kicking to the corner there you gain so much momentum and territory.

I seriously hope there was some long term planning involved with those decisions to kick.

Rugby has moved on since 2019.......teams have moved on, 2019 one dimensional rugby is not going to cut it, it's a recipe for disaster as we know. Unleash that backline.

"Can’t possibly believe Harassmus deliberately “just lost” the Irish game. "

Not what I said...., but we didn't leave everything on the field...explain the long range attemts at goal with the NZ warm up game as reference?

...this wasn't a "must win" match and was treated us such...same as NZ pool match in 2019...we still tried to win, just didn't mind loosing too much...I don't like it either, but it's been a feature of the Rasnaber era...blowing hot and cold.

And then against Wales we were tied at 16 points to 16. But this was also a ruse. Harrassmiss knew we would be given a penalty for Pollard to kick and he would slot it (Manie not so much).

That bit of deception, pretending to be in trouble against Wales is what deceived the Poms and ensured the WC. Ai maar hy is darem ‘n slim man!

"stick with Marnie and the attacking flair he brings to our backline or engage Pollock and hang with a conservative game."

Libbok has little attacking ability. His defence is poor and he cannot kick. Only the fools buy this nonsense of attacking flair. Pollard is far better on attack. Better in every way. Libbok is a poor man's Earl Rose.

I totally forgot about Earl Rose he was even worse than Jantjies.
