The Lions roared with authority at Ellis Park, steamrolling over Edinburgh with a sensational eight-try blitz that culminated in a 54-17 victory, elevating them to seventh in the Vodacom URC standings. Highlighting the match, Angelo Davids dazzled with a double, helping to lock down a significant win as the Lions set their sights on their first URC playoff appearance.

The game kicked off with a notable shift as Ruan Venter, originally slated as No 4 lock, made an early impact by scoring the first try. This set the tone for a match where the Lions consistently outpaced and outmaneuvered their opponents. The rapid succession of tries from Quan Horn and Darrien Landsberg, complemented by Chris Smith’s flawless conversions, saw the Lions quickly amassing a 21-0 lead within the first 21 minutes.

Morné van den Berg, celebrating his 100th appearance for the Lions, further punctuated the team's dominance with a bonus-point try, following a slick offload from Smith. Despite Edinburgh's attempts to claw back into the game, particularly after Francke Horn was sent off with a yellow card, the Lions' defense remained impenetrable, turning a critical turnover into a counter-attacking spectacle that concluded with Bronson Mills crossing the whitewash. By halftime, the scoreboard read a daunting 35-0.

"Counter attack at its best. Francke Horn breaks – Ruan Venter finishes."

Edinburgh showed signs of life in the second half with Ewan Ashman breaking through for a try, but any hopes of a comeback were quickly quashed as Davids responded with a try of his own. The exchange of tries continued, with Edinburgh's Freddy Douglas and the Lions’ Davids again finding the try line. The match neared its end as Matt Currie notched a third for Edinburgh, but it was the Lions who had the last roar. Replacement scrumhalf Haashim Pead's try ensured the Lions soared past the half-century mark in points.

Looking ahead, the Lions are set to host the Dragons next Saturday, promising another thrilling encounter at Ellis Park. Meanwhile, Edinburgh will be hoping to regroup as they travel to face the Stormers in Cape Town.
