Marx to Break Springbok Record

– Malcolm Marx needs one try to equal Schalk Burger’s record of 16 Test tries, the most by a Springbok forward.

Marx has played fewer tests than Schalk, with many of the bench.

-If the Boks have rolling maul tries, Marx is almost certain to score at least 1 try on Saturday.

Yet, we have simpletons like Ex-Deus claiming that Marx is a poor rugby player

That's not what Deus said.

He said Marx had an average game against the ABs, which from one perspective he did.

I don't agree with Deus because it felt like he was undervaluing Marx's presence.

But that's a million miles from calling Marx a poor rugby player.

Asking you to understand even obvious nuance has always been a fool's errand, Fishnuts.

For me, Marx is the best hooker that the Boks have had, and potentially one of the best hookers to have ever played the game. His error rate is almost non-existent and the pressure he applies isn't world-class...it's all-time class. A close to perfect hooker as you'll find.

I don't think that anybody on this forum would outright disagree with that statement.

Marx is very good….a true indispensable player….Marx should actually start every game, he is out best Hooker by far.

Fuck Plum you do love Doos don’t you

Not more than I love facts and honesty...Saffy

If somebody misrepresented you, I'd probably stick up for you too.

I’m jealous :)

Marx is a great player. Name  a better Bok hooker. Yet he seldom starts. Quotas are a real problem.

Orie is another proof of the problem.

1 of my all time Favourite Hookers is Uli Schmidt….man he was a tough guy and good player….John smit and Bismarck is also up there….but Marx can top them all I think.

Jul 26, 2023, 13:42

Agree.

He is a power house and should be the starting hooker in all Springbok games.

His only shortcoming is the throw in at present.

Hopefull it will be on target by RWC time.

Anyone with more than one brain cell could see the lineouts and scrums improved instantly as Marx got onto the pitch against the All Blacks.

These are the core functions of hooker play, so to suggest that Marx didn't have a good game is nonsense. Sure, by his usual standards - not his best but it was still that of the best hooker in the world.

Ex-Deus is Mary Contrary. He just contradicts what others say to try to appear as a guru, when in reality if he was given the responsibility to peel oranges he would probably screw that up.

Ex-Deus also claimed that the Bok forwards were more physical in the first half than in the 2nd half.

Agree Plum, I have never seen a better hooker than Marx….although I often feel he would have been a fabulous  number 7.

Marx looks average. It's been a long time since his peak in 2016, I'm starting to believe that this is is baseline.

No Buttplug, read very carefully- that is not what he said at all

He stated that Marx is average- and it is his baseline (meaning how he usually plays - at least since 2016)

Jul 26, 2023, 17:04

Yeah Marx is the best there has been, he edges Bismark in my opinion

We have had some good ones - Uli, Dalton, Smit, Strauss, Bismark, Bongi and Marx

Jul 26, 2023, 17:11

Tries off the back of a driving maul, just like those that account for the bulk of that of Bongi and Bismarck. Firstly, I never said he was a poor rugby player. I have stated several times of the past few weeks that he needs to show more of what he can do. I stated that he was the best player in the world in 2016, but hasn't reached that level since. That's not an opinion. That's a fact. As for being indispensable now? What has he produced to warrant such a label? Firstly, what did he do to "turn the game around" against New Zealand. I have gone over the game ruck by ruck, set piece by set piece and still, even with that information at hand, noone can point out exactly what he did that was so integral to anything. Some point out the breakdown, but that only raises more questions; how did they not see Kwagga, Steph, Koch, RG? It wasn't Marx who was doing to heavy hitting at the breakdown. So where was it? I think it comes down to the usual: He was seen at the back of the maul and scored a try. His face was on the screen, and the knee jerk emotional over-reach ensued. The simpletons are those who cannot assert anything of substance, yet again. It should be obvious by now that I line my ducks up before pulling the trigger. Even a little research goes a long way. The same faces argue against the facts, time and time again. They couldn't even see Willie at 10; low hanging fruit, yet still to lofty for them. Quite amusing. As with all the other mythical topics, I still wait for anything even remotely tangible from the simpletons.

Broke it today....with the most tries scored by a forward.
