Richie McCaw, the iconic former captain of the All Blacks, has expressed profound admiration for Siya Kolisi, the Springboks captain. Kolisi, who recently led his team to consecutive Rugby World Cup victories, symbolizes the spirit and integrity of rugby, according to McCaw. This commendation comes as Kolisi celebrated his 100th cap for South Africa, joining an elite group of players who have reached this milestone.

Kolisi's landmark 100th appearance was against France, a game that ended in a 32-17 victory for the Springboks, although Kolisi's participation was curtailed at halftime following a strategic substitution. Despite this, he continued to support his team from the sidelines, embodying the team-first ethos McCaw so greatly respects.

"Siya embodies everything that is great about rugby. Rugby is a game that unites people regardless of where they come from. Siya has not only excelled on the field but has endeared himself to both his teammates and the wider rugby community in his country with his attitude off the pitch,"

McCaw told reporters.

McCaw, who has an extensive 144 Test match experience himself, understands the challenges and demands of international rugby, especially in the back-row position. He praised Kolisi's resilience in overcoming repeated injuries to participate in critical tournaments. "Playing 100 Test matches takes courage and perseverance despite many setbacks, such as injuries and that’s exactly what Siya has shown throughout his career," he added.

The reverence for Kolisi extended beyond just McCaw. French rugby legend Jean-Pierre Rives also shared his admiration, linking Kolisi's influence to that of former Springboks captain Morne du Plessis.

"What a player, what a person! I suspect you have a factory in South Africa that produce these wonderful players,"

Rives commented, highlighting Kolisi's dual impact both on and off the field.

The celebration of Kolisi's achievements and character is a testament to his impact not only as a player but as a leader and ambassador for the sport. His journey continues to inspire and resonate across the rugby world, underscoring the profound respect he garners from peers and legends alike.
