In a stunning display of schoolboy rugby, Michaelhouse turned the tables on Affies in Pretoria, while Rondebosch and DHS also posted emphatic victories in the latest round of Easter rugby festivals.
The Pretoria Boys’ High 125th Anniversary Easter Rugby Festival was electrified as Michaelhouse came from behind to snatch a narrow 29-27 victory over Affies. It was a nail-biter with the lead swinging like a pendulum, but Michaelhouse clinched the win with crucial tries from Reece Cole, Fabiano Fierro, Tian de Bruyn, and Trezegeut Hawkins. The festival also saw Pretoria Boys’ High edge out SACS 35-34, thanks to a hat-trick by Aya Mabuza, in a match where the scores were locked at 20-20 at halftime.
Meanwhile, at the St John’s College Easter Rugby Festival, Hilton College scraped past Brisbane’s St Joseph’s Nudgee 17-12 in a gritty encounter. The day was also marked by high-scoring affairs, including Graeme College's 39-26 triumph over Bishops.
Over at the St Stithians College Easter Rugby Festival, the host's team faced a tough challenge, falling 28-12 to Wynberg Boys', who were propelled by Sean Takaendisa’s double try. Another notable match saw St John’s College (Harare) narrowly defeat Clifton College 22-18.
"We played with heart against a top team and turned our fortunes around in the second half," said Michaelhouse's captain, reflecting on their robust comeback.
The Kearsney College Easter Rugby Festival wasn't short of drama either, with the hosts continuing their winning streak, defeating Transvalia 33-13, courtesy of Nhlanhla Ndlovu’s dual tries. DHS showcased their might with a 38-7 demolition of Hoërskool Rustenburg, featuring a standout performance from Cilermo Carolus, who scored twice.
The festivals continue to offer a spectacular showcase of emerging talent, setting the stage for more thrilling rugby action as the season progresses.
