Top of my list are locks under 1.98m - they should not be locks

Light string bean locks under 117kg

Old players taking the spots of youngsters coming through - I have no issue with a worthy older player but most are not

Small, lightweight players that get blown away. I have plenty of time for those small players that bulk up and punch way above their weights - Kolbe, Arendse etc

A loosie too big to be an openside - Schalk Burger, Frans Louw, Marcel Coetzee

Blindside flankers that lack grunt

A scrumhalf that takes a few steps before passing

A flyhalf who’s default is to kick the crap out of a ball

Centres that lack size and physicality

Utility players being messed about - flyhalf yesterday, centre today and fullback tomorrow

Players not committing to competing for a ball in the air

Props not bulky and physical enough - under 117kg

Saffex knows I just like to turn the knife sometimes.

Saff, now worries bra. Yours is one of the more informed rugby opinion on this board.

That absolutely stupid move that DDA always does....where he jumps high into the air just before landing and attempting a side step when attacking....

Totally useless

My pet hates are pointless plays, players that can't create space, pin the defenders before passing. Or those players that just aimlessly kick the ball away. Some player that just hold onto the ball too long and get turned over. Normally this happens when they run down blind allies like Libbok is prone to do. Players that shy away from contact and not hit the ruck or compete for the ball on the ground.

I like Marx, Vermeulen, Kittshoff and Marco for that reason, their are hard to get off the ball and having all 4 of those players on the park makes it really hard for teams to get rhythm into their attack.

I like Esterhuizen, he is a weapon and use smart running angles, gets over the advantage line and his hands are super quick, does have a decent left boot to relieve pressure and help with those exits.

I do like libbok general game management and line breaking but does come undone and gets caught and stripped way to often with the ball.

I like strong hard as nails forwards, they don't need to be Sonny Bill tossing the ball around, but I also like my 8 to be super fast with line breaking and distribution skills. That move of Duane in 2015 quarter final against Wales for Fourie to score was amazing. I think Roos is our player to take us forward, but he is only 22 and need a few more seasons. So next couple of years is critical in his development internationally.

The Du Preez twins need to be in the wider team. They are both now 27 and do have a solid 4 years left in them and can peak at the next World Cup. It is a crime that they got discarded after one test by Rassie.

The new bulls loose head looks decent. Thomas Du Toit should be our main anchor. Really useful in your match day squad as he can cover both positions. Don't forget the new scrum law, if you fail to field a front row during the match and have to go to uncontested scrums then you'll have to take a player off the field. So you are only playing with 14 men instead of 15.

Again, Rassie and Nienaber have been fast asleep and I don't think they have brought enough players through.

Wiese showed that if he can't dominate physically how ineffective he is. Great at club rugby but not internationally when you are playing against one of the best players in the world. No soft shoulders to run onto.

My really question is whether Rassie will finally drop the axe and get rid of the dead weights.

Libbok was hopeless. No game management at all. Willie Was our 10 and Libbok had a few at first receiver. Did nothing of note.

Libbok was very good against Oz had very little time against NZ

Players that follow dangerous moves at half pace. Instead of assuming there might be a tackle that allows them to get back in the action and make a contribution.

My pet hate is lack of creativity.

If you don't dare then I don't care.

My pet hate is the drop kick, especially when it's used to try and accumulate points. It should be devalued to a single point and only used in the last minutes of a game as a tiebreaker or a game leveller.

Scrum penalties, its a mysterious place when sixteen men embrace

Jul 20, 2023, 11:08

Backline players who struggle with drawing and passing to straighten the line of attack, as well as those who resort to crab walking or lack the ability to pass more than 10 feet or off either side, hinder the team's performance.

Additionally, they often fail to determine when to crash the ball or when to spread it wide. It is evident that these players lack the understanding of running lines and fail to function as cohesive unit. While South African teams have shown improvement in their attacking skills in recent years, there is still room for further enhancement."
