He took Australia at a kak time and always knew he was gambling. I still think he identified negative personalities in the dressing room and removed them. I like Hooper but I don't know him. A coach, especially one as experienced as Eddie, probably recognised something in him and a few other players that he thought was either negative or simply not conducive to success in 4 year's time.
I mean, I would overlook Jones...certainly not based on who the likely candidates for the vacancy are. Stick and Davids are okay, but they're limited. I very much doubt either of them see or understands as much as Eddie. Eddie recently spoke very positively about Rassie's "innovation"...and wasn't he previously in line to coach in the Cape as well?
But...Eddie is a hardnose. And perhaps having softer coaches fronting a hard team is the right combination. If Eddie talks abrasively and we play abrasively, that may be too much.
Maybe Australia just isn't that good right now. Maybe they just don't have the players. Maybe they won't ever be a force again. I don't think they would have gotten past the quarters even with the more experienced personnel present, even with a different coach.

It seems Rassie will take over completely in the interim, when Jacques leaves, and there is talk that Duane will retire and take over as defense coach with Stick or someone else getting promoted from within the current team they have, because they have all signed another 4 year contract till the end of the next world cup.
If those two "Experienced Coaches" from the ANC Queens setup in PE get to be in charge of the Springboks all will be lost with or without Rassie.
