In a twist that's got the rugby world buzzing, former Test whistle-blower Nigel Owens has hinted that Springbok sensation Aphelele Fassi maybe should've spent some time in the sin bin during their clash with the Wallabies in Cape Town. Picture this: it's the 64th minute, the scoreboard reads 23-17 in favor of the Boks, and the Wallabies are knocking on the door. Enter Fassi, whose controversial tackle and subsequent turnover left more than a few Aussie fans and players seeing red - but not the kind that comes with a yellow card.

Owens, in a candid chat on Whistle Watch, didn’t mince words about the incident.

"I’m not saying that they were robbed in this game, but they certainly do have a very, very valid point here,"

he explained. According to Owens, Fassi failed to play by the book post-tackle: he needed to release the tackled player before making a play for the ball, something he evidently skipped, making his actions not just illegal but "quite cynical" given the proximity to the try line.

But Fassi wasn't the only Bok on Owens' radar. He also flagged an interference by Cobus Reinach, who cleverly (or slyly, depending on which side you're on) impeded Wallaby winger Corey Toole’s effort to join the fray.

"Look at South Africa 22 as well. What he does very, very cleverly, as he’s coming back, he runs across the tackle,"

Owens pointed out, suggesting that both incidents deserved penalties and possibly more.

The game wrapped up at 30-22 in favor of the Springboks, leaving fans and pundits alike to ponder what could have been had the ref's whistle blown a different tune. Was it a robbery? The debate rages on, but one thing's for sure: every whistle, or lack thereof, tells a story. And in rugby, it's often the difference between glory and what-could-have-been. So, as the dust settles on this Rugby Championship scuffle, the discussions, like the game itself, are far from over.
