As the tension built up for the impending Interschools derby, Paarl's rugby titans, Paarl Gimnasium and Paarl Boys’ High, didn't just walk over their opponents—they steamrolled them. With the kind of performances that turn heads and churn stomachs of opposing fans, both teams delivered smashing victories against Cape Town's southern suburbs teams, setting the stage for a clash of the season this Saturday.

Paarl Gimnasium, also known as the Gimmies, were nothing short of ruthless, planting 10 tries to demolish Wynberg 68-22. SA Schools captain Markus Muller was in spectacular form, crossing the whitewash twice and nailing seven conversions. Not to be outdone, Ethan Barker and Johan Kleynhans each snagged a pair of tries, contributing to Gimmies' staggering 18th win of the undefeated season.

Not far behind in the try-scoring fest, Paarl Boys’ High, affectionately dubbed Boishaai, dotted down nine times to secure a 51-8 victory over SACS at their home ground. Winger Kaleb Holmes was on fire, scoring a hat-trick, while fullback Mark Grindlay added two tries to the tally.

"Jake Dave, with a last-minute penalty to beat Paarl Boys away! Ice in his veins, classy player,"

Despite the heavy defeat, SACS had their moment earlier in the day when flyhalf Jake Dave slotted a last-minute penalty to clinch a nail-biting 36-35 victory in the U16A clash, showcasing the nerve and skill that make schoolboy rugby a cradle of future stars.

Elsewhere in Gauteng, the rugby pitches echoed with the sounds of dominance and upset. Affies overpowered Maritzburg College 45-27, while KES squeaked a one-point win against Pretoria Boys, 24-23. DHS also claimed bragging rights with a solid 24-10 victory over Jeppe.

In the rugby-rich Eastern Cape, wins were scattered across the board with Selborne, Stirling, Grey High, and Queen’s College all securing victories, painting a picture of a fiercely competitive landscape. Moving over to the Central region, scores like Diamantveld's 33 over Voortrekker's 31 and Witteberg's 35 over Jim Fouche's 18 highlighted another thrilling round of school rugby.

With these performances, the stage is well and truly set for more thrilling encounters. As the season progresses, each game not only decides who gets the bragging rights but also shapes the legends of tomorrow.
