Pieter-Steph du Toit . . .

There are few Springbok players who have ever copped as much flak as PSdT - especially on this board - but man, did he step up tonight when we needed him the most.

MotM in two consecutive RWC finals. I'd like to think that his most vocal critics are feeling a bit foolish now but they're generally the same people who find it very hard to ever admit they were mistaken, even when it's blatantly obvious they got it completely wrong.

As a long term fan and supporter of the man, I'll be the first to admit that his form dropped off quite dramatically after the 2019 final and then he suffered some injuries that might have ended a lesser rugby career . . . but he produced the goods again when it really mattered and if you still question his value then you should probably be looking for some other sport or hobby to pursue . . . because rugby is not for you.

Take a bow Pieter-Steph. For real rugby fans you will always be a rugby legend!

Actually he wasn’t the MOM in the 2019 final….Vermeulen was.

Oct 28, 2023, 23:39

My bad, he was Man of the Tournament in 2019, not MotM in the final. I stand corrected. Will you say the same?

Oct 28, 2023, 23:50

Well here are his stats:

Defending he made 12 more tackles than Mostert, while missing 3. Mostert was tackling at the same rate per minute. But Dud Toit made  the heavier tackles. Overall he was one of our better players on the day. But I could count at least 5 times he was in a perfect position to turn the ball over and was simply tipped off the ball.

Oh do shut your stupid trap you weak, cowardly and self-important little man.

Whatever modicum of respect I ever had for you is completely lost with childish posts like that. If you can't see with your own eyes what PSdT did tonight then just shut the hell up and stop engaging with me.

Seriously.

Oct 28, 2023, 23:56

I wasn’t engaging with you, I was correcting you.

Oct 29, 2023, 09:10

Kinda seals the deal....

The player of the match was Pieter-Steph du Toit, the South African flanker who made 18 tackles, two turnovers, and one lineout steal. He also carried the ball for 37 metres and beat three defenders. He was praised for his work rate, physicality, and leadership on the field12

Pieter-Steph du Toit was also named the World Rugby Player of the Year 2023, becoming the second South African to win the award after Bryan Habana in 20072

Oct 29, 2023, 09:31

Yeah, agreed.

PSDT had a blinder.

No two ways about it.

He put in some fantastic hits at crucial moments. Anyone who disagrees should watch the game back. I'll be giving it a second watch and am happy to post time stamps for all his tackles if anyone is interested.

I remember gasping at numerous points in the game when a big or timely hit was made and it was very often PSDT's handy work.

Perhaps he's not always at his best and maybe there are better players than him out there, but that's two WC finals where the man has turned up and shown his worth.

PS Imagine being Deon Fourie today!!!???

Oct 29, 2023, 10:13

and then there's this....

World class Du Toit

7 Pieter-Steph du Toit: A heroic defensive effort from the brilliant back-rower who worked tirelessly throughout the game. He covered just about every blade of grass on the pitch at the Stade de France. Sublime from the former World Player of the Year. He equalled Thierry Dusautoir’s record of 28 tackles in a single Rugby World Cup match. 10

Plum no matter how many times Mozzzz viewed the game he just can't gove the magnificent Du Toit the credit he deserves. He has been a biased and relentless Critic of Du Toit since at least the 2019 RWC. The fact that Du Toit was names Workd Rugby Player of their year did nothing to give the bigot pause to stop and reconsider.

Indeed it appears that he and Doos  are not gou g to change their minds about Du Toit, Rassie and Allende or the Boks. They will double down on stupid as we have seen repeatedly.

Doos rates DuToit's performance as a 3!!!! Mozzz will love this as it's thinking outside the box. Bwahahahaha.

PlumI trust you have read all the comments made by Doos and Mozzz about the match. If you can't see the bitterness against this Bok win I will be surprised.

Rassie and the Boks humiliated these two blowhards and they really has a meltdown, particularly Doos.

Oct 29, 2023, 10:50

Steph is never going to be a breakdown threat, he is too tall and too clumsy. We shouldn't even expect that anymore, it's not going to happen.

But you can't fault what he did on defence yesterday. So many of the times the All Blacks were stopped behind the advantage line, Steph was the hitman. I'm not a big fan, but his impact and effort in the final was palpable and obvious and I applaud it.

Oct 29, 2023, 10:52

If  you can't applaud the work done by DubToit you are either totally ignorant or virulently biased against the man.

Oct 29, 2023, 11:11

PSDT gave the Allblacks PTSD...(I nicked that from someone on Planet Rugby.)...and gave some others Bitterball-syndrome...absolute Bok legend!!!!

Oct 29, 2023, 14:02

As I said,  he was one of our best players yesterday….quite clearly. I actually thought he was going to get the MOM. That said he was poor against France and average against England. Peeper wanted me to ignore that and join the chorus….and then he had a hiss fit, when I didn’t.

The difference between rational think and emotional think.

Oct 29, 2023, 14:57

A Special Kind of player to come back from those horrific injuries and lost Form….he was a silent assassin with his tackles and big engine yesterday.

Oct 29, 2023, 23:24

PSDT was simply brilliant - he played like a man possessed

Comparing his game to Mostert’s is a joke

Mostert was pretty much anonymous while on the field except for his trademark spill of the ball in a feeble attempt at carrying

South Africa's Pieter-Steph du Toit tackles Jordie Barrett of New Zealand in the final.

A good read on how Pieter-Steph overcame a string of injuries that could have been career-ending for a lesser player.

Despite all the whining and foot-stamping from his childish and ignorant detractors, Pieter-Steph will go down as one of the all-time great Springboks. Right up there with the likes of Frik du Preez, Danie Gerber, Hennie Muller and co.

A Springbok legend!

True legendary Bok...fck the haters....

Easily one of the best blindsides to ever play the game

Oct 31, 2023, 03:59

The best blindsides produce in every game. Dud is an effort player, he produced in the two WC finals. But I can’t think of any other test where he has approached that form. It required a huge physical effort.. no player can sustain that game after game.

So the truly great blindsides fetch, they break tackles, they offload and those are skills they can reproduce game after game. Dud does none of that.

I am not in any sense denying Dud put on a great tackling display in the final. But against France he made 9 tackles and missed 5….he was nowhere near as amped. On Saturday he was uncharacteristically demonstrative, engaged and involved all over the park.

But that was on one dimension which happened to be the key dimension because of the game plan and the need to defend a slender lead. Dud remains a mobile lock playing out of position. You can finesse that by having a Marx or a Kwagga carrying the load at the breakdown. But we haven’t  found an alternative forward ball carrier.

Which is why in almost every WC team, Dud is not the choice,

Mozart shit' about Du Touit started in 2013 when it was mentioned that the rturn of Matfield would be a disaster and that Du Toit should be used instead of Matfield.   Matfield was a total failure in 2014 and 2015 - he buggered up during the WC  in 2015 and was a main reason for the poor performance in the semi when he came off the bench and buggered up royally.

Since 2013 there was a normal Mozart norm - he only saw what he wanted to see in the game and if his petty hate players do  well in matches he would give them no credit.   That is in  particular the case above as well.

So who are the truely great blindsiders you are talking about Mozart    One must have a sense of humor and I am sure I would LMAO about it.

Oct 31, 2023, 09:29

You have to excuse mozzz he is thinking outside the box.

Oct 31, 2023, 09:32

Frankly Mozzz and his sidekick Doos have been making BS comments about Rassie and the Boks for years. It's all caught up with them.

If Rassie retired there is a chance they might regain their sanity. Until then it will be more of the same BS.
