The Boks have ridden their luck the past few years. They haven't played good rugby at any point. Without Frans, and an obscene amount of ref bias, the Boks lose at least 7 of those tests, including the Lions Series. They have never been anywhere close to being the best in the world. Of course, Erasputin is very good at instilling a victim mentality, which South Africans inherently gravitate to, and manipulates the windgats among the fan base. A win over France doesn't change very much. It's a game in isolation in what has been an abysmal season of rugby. That's the thing with a WC, a couple of fortuitous fixtures and events, and you can have a clear run. It usually comes down to two decisive games where anything can happen. The Boks have been broken throughout the Erasputin era, but they have never been more ragged, disorganized, and without any kind of identity or structure. At least in 2019 there was a clear approach to gameplan and personnel, even if it wasn't very good.
More vindictive bile ftom the most anti Bok poster on this board. Heck even the Kiwis have more respect.
Then you have Brits and kiwis pundits etc on You Tube showing great respect for the Boks.
But from poor Deus, with his nose severely out of joint, you get a never ending stream of anti Bok drivel. Rassie worst coach ever. Boks have a glass jaw and soft under belly. What a laugh! Bwahahahahahahaha
ha.
There cannot be an Erasmus supporter who is a Bok supporter. There is nothing to respect in the Erasputin era. He has ruined the Boks. A Bok supporter does not worship figureheads, and holds each coach accountable for what they have done. The Church of Erasputin worships Erasmus, and they will gloss over all failings, with the most outrageous serving of lies of any coaching era. They are not concerned with the Boks, they are concerned with defending their chief deity. The real Bok supporter will not defend Erasputin. Many years before he ever coached the Boks the Church of Erasputin was present, and it was clear that this was never going to work out. In his first coaching stint with the Boks
, in 2011, it was clear that this was not the mortal for the job.
Come Sunday, we'll finally know whether this lager mentality will aid us in our conquest.
The only differences with coaches from the pas is that some of us on here have been lulled into a false sense of pride and confidence. Always stay humble
1995 - Best World Cup run, underdogs and deserving winners, if you not a Kiwi and the mysterious Susie.
1999 - We sputtered into the World under Mallet, although we had a 17 run winning streak. We ambushed England with 5 De Beer drop goals. Would never forget how miserable Woodward was. Unfortunately Australia played a sublime game.
2003 - To be hones, the boks were back peddling and we Viljoen and few coaches before we settled. We new De Straulie messed up the team and we were knocked in the quarters
2007 - Jake had a plan, we took a dip but he made sure our key boks were rested. We completely destroyed England in what the press would describe as perfect game by the boks. We had a few scares, but we beat England in the Final, NZ got knocked by a French forward pass and poor reff.
2011 - Piet Helium ran that bok team into the ground, all the guys were primed and ready but his latter years messed up our preparation and not to mention the huge ego of John Smit. But I didn't believe we would get anywhere with this coach. Rassie was involved too by the way
2015 - Under Meyere we were number 2 and had a good run until the final few months before the World Cup. We lost to Argentina, taking injured, old and out of form boks with a sprinkle of youth players such as Pollard and Kriel in the team. The Japan loss was the final death knell under Meyer. We made it to the Semi, only to lose to one of the greatest all black team of all time by 1 point.
2019 - Again, weren't sure where we would end up, but the momentum was behind us. We got an away win in NZ, won the Championship. Lost to NZ, had an easy run to the finals and then went all the way. Our final performance was the best. Wales was risky, just like the in 2015 when it took a brilliant break by Duanne of the back of the scrum with a reverse pass to Du Preeze to break the deadlock. Dud did the same for us, broke the deadlock with individual brilliance.
I would have like if we went on a winning streak like Ireland.
I just don't like this feeling of not knowing
Bokke by 50!
It was mentioned by Plum in another post, but this over reliance on experience is something that a lot of the previous coaches also did….not really establishing a good balance between Older experience and Young Guns….this and our inability to break away from a Forward Dominated Game Plan for Decades, has hindered our development into a complete and Balanced Rugby side…our Backline Play/ Structured Attack is not what it should be given the Fast and Dynamic players we have.
In 2019, it was called the worst ever WC game. A very dour affair against a Welsh side suffering injuries, and they also lost their attack coach to illness earlier in the tournament. It was an ugly game. Many windgats beat their chests after the final win, but most of those people were afraid after seeing what England did to New Zealand. They are like a bunch of emus. Of course, as I called it back then, it would be a different test, and England were our best possible matchup for a final. It went even better when they lost their front rower, and Beast - the rightful MOM - went to work laying the platform for the win.
It was rotten luck that Flip was injured before the WC, and that Frans ruled himself out after the death of his brother near the eve of the WC. Those two omissions would later severely hurt the Boks. None more so than after Jean was injured against Samoa, ruling him out. Meyer should have included Serfontein and de Jongh in place of Damian and Kriel, but that's not want the fake fans wanted.
Rassie will be carried on hands even if we loose by SA Rugby and the Gov…for them it’s not about winning , but Rather Transformation...Judgement day will come from us, the Fans… and trust me it will be Ruthless…in the End if we loose, Rassie will leave eventually, as the Criticism and demand of Us the Fans, will be to big of a burden to carry…ANC is walking a fine line with there politically driven agendas in sport, eventually no one will support the Boks anymore…so if we win it will just be better.
My only problem who will be after him. I shudder to think what is to come. So maybe it will be good if SA is stripped of national status and we have a band of springboks and NOT proteas as the ANC want us to play under.
Yup, I think merit selection went straight out of the window some time ago. Only way to get rid of a quota is through injury.
Sad to think that a win in SA is Transformation and winning means nothing. The boks have been the only sport team to have a massive impact on the country. Just watch how the people of all races celebrate. They celebrated on all 3 occasions. Bfana nor the proteas ever came close in bringing our country together
The criticism will be minimal. Erasputin has had a cushy ride, and will leave when he feels like it on his terms.
For me personally I have prepared myself for the loosing scenario, but what comes after that realistically speaking does not look promising….so I would rather have Rassie than Bafana Bafana coaches….which is very likely to happen, if Rassie also leaves.
It can't get very much worse than Erasputin. Trust me. It's a total clown show. The RC becoming all time bad has helped... a little bit.
I hear you Deus, but having a Stick or David’s as HC or maybe even the Dude that Coached the Junior Boks into the ground, is definitely not a stable platform to build….if by some Miracle we do get a Proper coach, we will be better off . Dobo might just be the right man for the job as he understands the Dynamic of Coaching in Sa regarding Transformation…He is a decent coach with his team of Dawie Snyman Attack/ Backline and Simon Laker Defence. Matt Proudfoot forward/ Scrum coach…this would be a much better solution.
France and Ireland have huge pressure on them to perform. Ireland wins with subtlety, that’s hard to sustain if they get behind. France can be imperious, but they can also be self destructive….of all the major teams they would be my first bet to get a red card.
I was pretty sure Ireland was going to beat the Boks in the pool game, especially without a kicker…this game against France is on a knife’s edge. But if Pollard isn’t starting I’d pick France by 7.
I rate Rassie as one of the best Bok coaches of all time.
My only criticism is 2023 which can't be going to plan.
The constant chopping and changing of players and combinations seems like Roedolf Straulie is the match day team selector.
There seem to be two B-teams, but not an A and B teams with combinations.
Most other teams have selected a first-choice team and tweaked it each week to test backup players and combinations.
Ireland on paper is not the strongest team as a set of individuals - but they are more than the sum of their parts because of established combinations.
They are the best team as a unit, but not the best set of individuals.
His technical understanding of the game isn't good. His ability to handle and assess personnel is among the worst. He is not a top tier coach, and 90% of the work and the core of the model comes directly from Nienaber. Everything aside from that has been a failure. From 2018 to 2023, the Boks have been a shambles, and it has regressed each year. There is no aspect of Erasputin's reign that has been acceptable. He is a laughable clown show, and the first Bok coach who has been openly criticised by some of the best minds in the game. Why should we be surprised? He has never had a good coaching career at any level. He took the dour failed model of the Stormers and created the most limited Bok side since 2002.
Wow... if we win any World Cup with any palooka coach I'll take it. The opposition last Cup wasn't great and the touring Lions were pathetic.
I don't think there has ever been such an arrogant halfwit as Deus when it comes to rugby. The most stupid comments on this board belong to this clown.
Rassie knows far far more about rugby than this ignorant loon will ever know.
We have the worst defence he claims. Ireland score one try against us and many against Scotland. This buffoon needs to be confined to a section for loons. He is already making excuses as to why the Boks might win. Bwahahahaha he gets more absurd as we go along.
Rassie is the guy who got a ‘c’ in class, but always had an angle. There is a lot of smoke, but nothing new under the Harrassmiss sun.
Can he get lucky again after 4 years of absolutely no progress on any dimension?
Is there one thing about our backline play which is a unique Harrassmiss contribution.. .none that I can think of.
Actually, a world cup and coach of the year is an A+....and having the Boks in the top 4 in the closely contested world rankings during the last 2 years should be an A+ too...B+ at the minimum...an average C, plus the angle should be at least a B...if the angle is good enough, an A...your under appreciation of "the angle" is noted and it kinda explains your lack of understanding of Rassie's elustrious accomplishments as Bok coach...missing the point is starting to be a habit...
"Can he get lucky again after 4 years of absolutely no progress"
We couldn't put a decent score on the ABs in all that time ....untill the warmups...huge progress right there!
Ja, Rassie convince Mark Alexander to give him a 6 year contract with the view of winning this World Cup. Best deal any SA coach ever got, the only problem was that he went and won it, playing a very conservative brand of rugby. He peaked too soon.
I watched some of his recent team talks, the fire wasn't there. He almost looked drunk with power. What else is there to win now. As Rassie does and always have done. He likes to experiment and tinker. Jacques is gone, which may be his last game as bok coach. No telling what Rassie will do, instead, we have a very old team with no core for the next cycle. Maybe Moody, and a few.
My other problems is his poor squad selections. 4 scrum halves, 5/6 locks, 4 open side flanks. Only half a blind side flank. No real 10 until Pollard showed up. The best 12 don't even get to play.
That team that beat the All Blacks should be the team to start.
He also messed up our backup at hooker. Why isn't Grobbler in the mix, instead we have barrel arms dweeb that can't scrum or hit the side of the barn.
What's up with all of the experiments, no real starting team. Haven't he learned what happened to other coaches.
His insistence that you don't need a kicker. What is he talking about, when he said in his previous interviews he is looking at where to get points on the field.
I hope this is a big game and that he finally fulfil on his promise. This is the World Cup that he was planning for for 6 years.
This is why I think it is Judgement day, this will define him as either mediocre coach or one of the greatest coaches.
Time to stand up and deliver
It really is judgement day.
We have endured more playing with food from Erasmus than an anorexic rich chick with an ephedrine addiction.
This is where all that planning and testing is supposed to come to the fore and separate our clearly more talented side from France.
I can't see us getting past France with the midfield we're going to select. I feel like we need more than to smash them up front continually. We can't afford for attack after attack to be spoiled by our 12/13 black hole. We need something from the backs. And we surely don't need the backs messing up chances like Kriel and DDA did against Ireland. For me AE, Moodie and Willemse could have brought that but others think DDA and Kriel will. No matter how hard I try, I just can see it.
By all rights we should have beat Ireland. The two problems were Manie and our midfield.
We'll start with Pollard but the French probably see right through Kriel and DDA.
It's unfair to consider RasNaanber as all bad but at the same time, they failed to create anything exciting in the backs, almost as though they are simply there to live off of scraps while DDA tries his best to run directly into traffic.
We're better than that. We have exciting players but where are the setups to put them into space? Where's the one-two punch from the forward to the backs. It's all good and well versus Romania. But against anyone decent we wanna go right back into our shells use our backs as glorified high ball catchers.
Look at the moves Ireland did against Scotland. A couple of those tries were sublime in both planning and execution.
When do we ever score tries like that? Apparently never. All our tries are scraps or counters, but we hardly ever punch from the ruck and score the types of tries that Ireland are making look easy.
All of us here see the difference, right?
I see it and to me it's proof that Rassie and co don't really care much about complete rugby. These backs have all been together for ages...but we see nothing from them like we do from Ireland. Why not? Is there no benefit to it? Seems to benefit Ireland.
Perhaps it's a consequence of having the embarrassment of riches in forwards that we have. Like we're bound to ignore our backs. But surely, even being that blessed with forwards, one would understand that complementing them with exciting and well organised back play would have the team playing much nearer to its potential.
It really is judgement day.
Happy to eat humble pie, well done Rassie, you pulled another blinder off. With a limited game plan and hardly any forward domination. Subs paid off and we squeak through, that said, one of the best recent French teams. You did it.
Yes lots of red faces once again from the Rassie bashers.
How wrong these numpkins were about Allende and Kriel. How wrong about Deon Fourie and Vermuelen. How wrong about most things as they told everyone how smart they were and how dumb Rassie and Nienaber were. Hahahahahaha.
Face facts you talked yourself into a hole getting further and further away from reality.
Congrats to Sharkbok and and Draad for not going along with the nonsense.
Poor Doos has had mountains of EGG landing. Mozz is next in line in the Egg stakes. Hahahahahaha.
In vain I tried to warn these loons they were on tbe wrong track.
It appears the oaks still don't know how good the Boks wete to keep the French scoreless when Eben went off for 10 minutes bye the way the rules need to change. That French ie was going downwards and it was the only reason there was a clash of heads. Totally unintentional as well.
So to summarize the worst team ever with a glass jaw and soft under belly won. This was done with the unfortunate Boks having tbe worst coach ever. The team has no attacking flair and bad defence.
Then we have the absurd claim about no progress. If you can't see the improvement regarding backline play you are as daft as a hatter.
Exciting young backs like Willemse, Williams, Arendse, Libbok and Moodie have been introduced in the last few years.
The loss of important players like Marx, Lood (a fine lock) Pollard and Am didn't derail us. Thankfully Pollard is back. The loss of the best hooker in World rugby was huge.
The oaks never realised thslat Rassie put together the most versatile squad ever assembled. Go through the team and see how many players can play in more than one position. Eg take tbe 4 scrum halves issue. Reinach and Williams can play wing. Faf can play flyhalf.
We can field a bomb squad because of this versatility. It's unique to the Boks.
No it's clear Rassie is light years ahead of the plodders here.
Nobody however has ewusllex the daft comments of ou doosie. Hahahahaha.
Yes Judgement day has come and GONE. Rassie wins and the loons lose.
Yep Rassie yet again proves all you ignorant fools wrong
Dave I think these guys live in a little echo chamber convincing themselves day after day that Rassie is clueless. So admcyer some time their grasp on reality has gone.
Doosie is far, far gone.
The problem they have now is that by making the semis tbe Boks have had a good World Cup. If the Boks make the final it gets even worse. If tbe Boks win the cup they are completely done. Hahahahaha.
If we win the world cup ou doosie will triple down on stupid and try and convince one and all how bad Rassie and the team are. Mozzz will dig out any stat he can find to show it was pure luck and that a the teams we played were hopeless or just not on form on the day.
In the circumstances the Boks winning the cup would be hilarious. I can't even imagine how these two mamparas would try to spin things.
Well These 2 Mamparras + me as you call us, predicted that the Boks will win…not even you out right said we will win….when the chips was down, and it matter the most, we stood firm and practically willed the Boks to win?! So who is the Mamparra now : )
I said I believed the Boks could win. Go and read my posts. In tight matches like these it was the sensible prediction. Boks were playing a top team in their backyard.
Check the record mampara power. It was not me criticizing the Boks and Rassie at every turn. You can't wiggle out it now. Hahahahahaha.
I would say nice try but that was very poor!
Well, when you win a game by 1 point, and where the stats look as abysmal after the game, it's hardly fair to say people predicting a loss were completely wrong.
I'm happy we won. But dang, that was far too close for anyone to do much chest beating.
An epic weekend of rugby though.
Epic beyond epic.
Mozart
Why do you keep making a fool of yourself . When Erasmus was appointed to get Springbokrugby out of the dire situation out of the disastrous situation it was in because of the stupidity of Meyer and Coetzee as coaches. You started moaning about him before eh assumed duty because of cfalse claims about his coaching career you discovered.
During the 2018 season you moaned like a stuck pig all the time. Rassie has no idea about coaching and he did bring nothing in coaching. Erasmus inherited a totally dispirited team and had to find ways and means to foster self-believe and confidence in themselves. After a decade of disastrous selections and neglect he also had to find some players that could be developed . I cans till remember your screams of agony about the loss by 2 points against Wales. The team consisted of newbies with only five players amongst the 23 selected players who played for the Springboks before.
Then the moans about De Allende and Du Toit surfaced again and never change for a decade now. So lets get back to 2018. The Springboks won against the AB's atway and how ddid they won that test and virtually every test since then by scoring enough tries - something they rarely did in the past. Experimenting with players went on throughout 2018. One of the players who was used was Esterhuizen - who despite serious and obvious deficiencies became a favorite player of yours. I think Esterhuizen cost himself selection for the WC squad because of incredible stupidity, but Mozart and co kept moaning about h im ev er since. .
Rugby again for the first time since 2000 under Erasmus the brand of Springbok Rugby changed and the Springboks started winning matches by scoring tries and playing 15 man rugby - something which you and others failed miserably to recognize. The Springboks won the 1005 final against the AB's by goalkicking and the same applied to th e 2007 WC final. Even John Smit admitted that if the English try was awarded - the team would have to find ways of scoring a try in the final against England - in other words the coach never worked out a strategy to be used against the elderly players in the English team through sc oring of tries.
In 2020 the National government in SA stopped all sport in S A and added to th at prevent travel over provincial borders in SA. That went on untill the end of September 2020 and when SDARIU decided againt participation in the Rugby Championshuip in 2020 it was Erasmus who were blamed for th e SARU decision - according to Mozart he "chickened out". When SARU asked Erasmus whether the team would be ready to compete in the RC - he said the players were not matchfit and danger of serious injury would as a result be a problem. Both were facts and according to Mozart he should have lied about it.
In 2019 the Springboks achieved the winning of both the RC and WC in the same year. It became the Team of the Year and Erasmus became the Coach of the year and Du, Toit became the Player of the Year proving that shit was all Mozart can be accused of thinking. In the 2019 WC for the first time since 1995 scored 2 tries in the final by playing 15 man rugby. In bot tries forwards played a role in scoring _ Marx and Du Toit. When De Allende in the semi against Wales scored the try that won the match for the s pring boks BS brain Mozart ignored the try totally. By the way De Allende scored a really good try yesterday - he started the attack and ended it by scoring the try himself. As expected not a word about that try from Mozart and the rest of his shitbbrain prima donnas.
Becaujse of their constant BS over 5 years I really lost interest in commenting on the same BS they spout all the time. Will theyever elarn anything about the game - hope they do, but I doubt it.
. . ..
‘Esterhuizen cost himself selection for the WC squad because of incredibl.’
Now that’s bad, I hate it when centres get ‘incredibl’
Stick with Mike.
Dimness my computer probvlem is that it switch off and go out of the program and saved what I wroter. I completed the sentense and rest of the posting afterwards..
Good summary Mike ou Mozzzzz zzz has been asleep at the wheel regarding rugby and other matters for years now.
Taking his cue from Doos has proved disastrous.
We wish Mozzzz and Doos a genuine recovery.

Finally, we get to the part of the comp where it really matters.
For 4 years we were told that with a 63% win record that we are the best in the world. No real trophy's to speak of other than the lonely Lions series bragging rights, which in honest opinion was a drab affair. Not to mention the chicken run in 2021, even though 18 of the starting boks in 2019 were playing abroad and had plenty of game time under their belt.
So here we are. Of course, I want us to win the world cup, but yet again we can't walk away to say that we are the best team.
We lost to Ireland, but this time there is no Japan, neither a Welsh team or a deflated English team that thought they won.
Some journalist keep saying that boks are keeping their powder dry and will show in the world cup
Yet, not the smartest coaches if you ask me. They are too dogmatic in their believe in players. We really needed a kicker in the Ireland game. Anyway, I can go on for ages.
The fact remains, the boks will have a real test on their hands this Sunday. They couldn't beat the Frogs last year's, neither could they beat the Irish. How sure are that they can beat this French team on home soil.
The only two teams with credibility is France and Ireland. Unbeaten and in great form. New Zealand and South Africa are pretenders and what you see when former great boxers no longer have the fight and hunger left in them. Instead, both SA and NZ have been guilty of not asserting themselves.
So, I do hope Rassie is playing a game and the real boks show up. I want us to winz but neither do I want to be fooled and caught up with his hype machine. We lost to Ireland. Fact.
Is it all bluster or can he muster the fight in the boks to go on and take on the world. The time is now for the real Rassie to show up
