Rassie - Credit where it is due

My thoughts have changed a bit on how I understand and believe the Springboks won this last world cup, and even though I have always said that they thoroughly deserved it, watching the latest Chasing The Sun 2, has just really reaffirmed that for me.

Watch what the players say about this particular training tactic that Rassie used that Dave refers to in another thread. because it is bloody hilarious.

You literally see Rassie dragging this huge bluetooth speaker all over the training ground, playing the French anthem over and over and over, for ages, just to get the Springbok players worked up and pissed off against the French.

Duane actually finally went up to Rassie on the field and told him to please stop playing it, because the players now knew the French anthem better than most French people did themselves, lol.

Willie Leroux said it worked though, because the players were so pissed off or gatvol to hear that anthem again when they were standing in the stadium for the game.

Watching how Rassie identified a flaw in the French gameplay, when they were each working out their specific field moves on that custom made X-Box rugby training program... was just simply absolutely brilliant, which they then used Manie to implement, with another cross kick.... which he did with absolute perfection, to score the try, which in my opinion, won us the game..... well, that and the Eben try scoring "knock back", which would have put the French 14-0 up earlier on.

I must say, this new Chasing the Sun 2 is really giving me new insight into just how much preparation went in to every single game and also the individual moves during certain pivotal moments in the game .... just like another masterclass move, where Rassie himself went and investigated and confirmed beforehand that he could call a scrum from the mark, which when Libbok did, it left the opposition, even the ref and the commentators completely stumped..... nobody knew you could do this....but it was within the laws of the game.... and it worked a charm when we smashed them in the scum that followed.

Rassie had to get this specific law clarified before the game, and when he did, he implemented it.

Another brilliant piece to see was when Jacques Nienaber says that Jessie Kriel had, all on his own... practiced a grubber kick, from Monday to Friday... every day.... at least 30 times, which was the exact same grubber kick move that he made which led to the Kolbe try ...

Got to say though, whilst Rassie may have made some mistakes before and during that world cup, all these small things here just accumulatively add up to a purely brilliant rugby mind

Just saw another stat now

We apparently only had 99 seconds of possession in the French half during that game... in 40 minutes of play.

Crazy

I think the other thing coming out of Chasing the Sun 2 is the critical role that Felix Jones played in identifying opposition weaknesses to exploit. He's now joined Steve Borthwick in the England coaching team and I won't be surprised to see big improvement from them next year.

But yes, it's also obvious how well Rassie prepared for each game and how good he is at man management. Those people who still denigrate his achievements and still write off his two RWC victories as luck are basically just rugby noobs with massive amounts of egg all over their faces and anyone who's watching CtS2 will join me in laughing at them.

I still haven't seen it. Gonna wait until it's all out and then binge.

Oh, and wait until those Frenchies come and tour here again. After how their fans treated our boys, I hope they know they'll be receiving a "warm" welcome.

Sore losers. No wonder everybody hates the French.

Apr 10, 2024, 12:31

Yeah, I have to fully agree with you on Felix Jones..... he was simply world class with how he explained everything in minute detail back to the players....

Apr 10, 2024, 12:43

"I still haven't seen it. Gonna wait until it's all out and then binge"

I wanted to do that, but I just couldn't wait

The program seriously does show a completely different detailed behind the scenes analysis of what and how things get looked at before and during every game.

Rassie in most instances very clearly takes every single support staff's suggestions on board and incorporates it into the gameplan.

For me CTS2 especially showed just how detailed and analytical Rassie is and how anal he is with every single minute detail of preparation and I mean minute detail.... ....and whilst we must also credit support staff like Felix Jones, let's not also forget that it would have been Rassie's final decision to also bring him on board.

The scrum from the mark was solely Rassie's idea, as was the identified gap in the French backline which Rassie picked out for the cross kick that Manie did perfectly .... I think Rassie picked this out from when (I think it was Jessie), who had his turn with using the X-Box control stick to work out some game moves on the TV.... it was just brilliant.

I was also a bit upset and confused with some of Rassie's selections prior and during the world cup, but this has honestly made me rethink my overall perception of him .... his passion and commitment to the Springboks and the South African public as a whole is without a doubt unquestionable.

"& we picked 4 number 9s"

There's some irony there. Like I said earlier, if we win this RWC it'll be despite Rassie, not because of him.

The initial selection of 4 scrumhalves, the decision to exclude Pollard from the original squad, the selection of Am to replace Mapimpi when we didn't use him even once, the 7-1 split for the final, the kick-and-hope game plan . . . all stupid shortsighted decisions made by an egotistical fool trying to prove he's some kind of genius.

Oh well . . . Go Bokke!

Apr 10, 2024, 19:14

Thanks Moffie, I think most regular posters here know that I didn't rate Rassie and had lots to say about his selections, his strategy and his desire to control everything and micro-manage the players . . . but he shut me up after he won us a RWC for the second time. No need to go running off to the archives to find all the negative things I said about him. I freely admit it.

It's called changing your mind. You should try it some time.

Apr 10, 2024, 19:24

So you didn’t rate him when he beat France and England, but he shut you up (well done him) when the Boks beat 14 man NZ by a point. So when you said he was an ‘egotistical fool’ you were wrong. It seems you aren’t very good at picking fools.

Case closed.

Apr 10, 2024, 19:27

Well, I suppose so . . . I picked you for a fool a long time ago after all.

Apr 10, 2024, 19:33

Wooosh!

Apr 10, 2024, 19:49

Moz now if only you could admit that you got Rassie completely wrong

But we know better and the joke is on you bud

Apr 10, 2024, 19:57

Luckiest coach in any sport ever. One or two gimmicks, which are good fun….but it took Pollard’s boot and a red card to get us over the line. We really were no better than France, England or  the ABs.

Apr 10, 2024, 20:00

Obviously you remain confused (sic)nek….to make your little joke  work you needed to say ‘I didn’t pick you for a fool long time ago’.

No need to thank me.

Apr 10, 2024, 20:02

Just like a thought - the joke is on you

Apr 10, 2024, 20:43

Just so you get the drift:

I say: ‘It seems you aren’t very good at picking fools.’

And you respond: ‘ Well, I suppose so . . . I picked you for a fool a long time ago after all.’

Meaning: you confirm you aren’t good at picking fools because you picked me for one a long time ago… ie you admit you were wrong in picking me for a fool.

Are you getting senile….hahaha. Actually this little spat follows the pattern of so many. You find some careless mistake in something I post  and play it for the max…I engage in a low key sort of way giving you time….and sure enough the old (sic)nek foot shoot follows.

Game, set and match….enjoy your crow.

Apr 11, 2024, 03:07

Rooi having a George Dub'ya moment.

"Fool me, fool urh...uhm fool, you know."

Haha

Apr 11, 2024, 10:59

Hahahahahahaha. It's hilarious to see mozzietard still so upset that the Boks won the RWC a second time in a row under Rassie.

He is still bright enough to know he has made a complete jackass of himself yet again. It's obviously very painful. You can expect more of the same from ou Mozzietard for years to come.

Should Rassie win a third RW don't expect mozzietard to do anything but denigrate the win. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Go see a shrink Mozzie maybe he can help you overcome this trauma!

Apr 11, 2024, 12:56

I won’t have to wait that long to prove you wrong HasBeen, just till November.

Apr 11, 2024, 13:34

Say (sic)nek how does it feel to be totally outplayed by somebody who you claim is a fool, senile or suffering from dementia. Chalk up one for the demented! LMAOF again.

Apr 11, 2024, 15:06

Moffie, the day a stupid old fool like you "outplays" me at anything I'll probably go top myself . . . but keep deluding yourself that you're winning something . . . you do after all have one Gimp left who might believe you.

LMAO!

Apr 11, 2024, 15:46

Buttplug the gimp lol

I have a kinda different view of Rassie in that I see his success as a sort of extended version of flow state.

A state where you focus solely on the objective and your mind, instead of seeking distraction, gives in to your will.

It's probably similar to the way people claim time slows down, and their senses are heightened when they experience a life threatening situation. Your mind is completely focused on a singular objective.

I mentioned it here before, but flow state is well known in gaming. So much so that one can clearly tell when you're in it and when you're not. Where there are routines and exercises one engages in prior to competitive matches with the sole purpose of getting into that flow state.

The weird thing about flow state isn't the deep focus and seeming slowness of time one experiences, but rather how extremely lucky one seems to get.

I've experienced this many times while competing at various games. A feeling that there is no way one can be this lucky. That all the enemies are running in front of your crosshairs like lemmings and all your preemptive actions are timed to the point where it feels like you're predicting the unpredictable.

Rassie's tenure feels like that to me. Though, a more extended version. Like he's in some hyper focused state where he's making his own luck and throwing grenades around corners while having no way of knowing if the enemy will be there, but inevitably securing the kill.

Just a bit of fun.

Apr 11, 2024, 17:41

I don’t need anybody to agree (sic)nek…you and I both know you needed a negative not ‘I suppose so’. But don’t top yourself, who else would be my bunny.

Apr 11, 2024, 17:56

". . . who else would be my bunny."

Probably the most delusional comment I've seen on this board . . . which - if you consider some of the epic candidates that the likes of ou Maaik and Baboon-ou have put forward - is saying something!

By the way, Moffie, even a semi-literate retard knows that your "question" requires a question mark (?) ar the end rather than a full stop.

Now go ahead and start shrieking about my ability to integrate x squared or try to sputter something about the laws of punctuation not applying in this case, but note that I wouldn't normally nitpick about something so trivial if it wasn't your main weapon on this board and the kind of thing you gloat and condescend to other posters on such a regular and consistent basis . . . so suck it up yet again you pretentious, smug and pompous old fool.

LMAO!

Apr 11, 2024, 19:20

Some sentences that sound like direct questions are really declarations (What wouldn’t I do for you), requests (Why don’t you take a break), or demands (Would you kids knock it off). Questions like these, which do not require or expect an answer, are called rhetorical questions. Because they are questions in form only, rhetorical questions may be written without question marks’

Waaaaaaaaaaaahahaha….bunnnnnny!

And what the blue blazes does ‘pribably’ mean. Oh never mind you changed it, but you didn’t thank me!
