The Springboks' camp just got a major strategic boost. In a move that has the rugby world buzzing, Joe Lewis, a seasoned technical analyst formerly with England, has been snagged by Rassie Erasmus to join the South African squad. With a stellar resume that includes stints with Scarlets, Ospreys, and notably as England’s head analyst, Lewis is now set to tackle the challenges of the 2026 international season with the current world champions.

Lewis, who comes from Wales, is not just any analyst. His academic credentials are as impressive as his professional ones, holding a master’s degree in performance analysis from Cardiff Metropolitan University and a degree in sports management from the University of South Wales. His expertise has been honed through roles such as Wales’ national age-grade video analyst and head analyst at Taranaki Rugby Football. His tenure with England saw him ascend from head analyst to senior analyst, wrapping up after their recent Six Nations campaign.

With the introduction of the Nations Championship and the eagerly anticipated Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry tour on the horizon, Lewis's timing couldn't be better. His deep understanding of the game, derived from experiences at the 2019 World Cup, Six Nations, and Autumn Nations Cup, positions him as a pivotal addition to the Springboks as they gear up not only for the season but also with an eye towards the 2027 World Cup.

"We are delighted to welcome Joe to the Springbok team,"

Erasmus expressed.

"Given his vast experience in technical and performance analysis at both international and club levels, we believe he will add great value to our squad as we prepare for a busy and exciting season, and further ahead to the 2027 World Cup."

Erasmus is confident that Lewis will integrate smoothly into the Springbok setup, enhancing their strategic play with his analytical acumen. This strategic reinforcement fortifies the Springboks' preparations, signaling their intent not just to compete but to dominate on the global stage, reaffirming their status as a powerhouse in international rugby.
