Rassie Erasmus couldn't help but chuckle at Cheslin Kolbe's recent rugby faux pas during the face-off with Argentina in Durban. In a moment that might leave some scratching their heads, Kolbe turned what should have been a routine goal-line dropout into a golden opportunity for Los Pumas. Instead of clearing the ball, he inadvertently drop-kicked it back into action, allowing Argentina’s Santiago Chocobares to swoop in and score in one of the Rugby Championship's most bewildering plays.

Erasmus was quick to address the incident, confirming that it was all above board.

“It’s very simple what he did wrong. He wasn’t trying to kick a short kick-off, he just wanted to kick the ball to the guys who would normally clear it. But it’s a legal try – he drop-goalled it, they were five metres away, and they scored. It was a bit of a brainfart,”

Erasmus explained.

The blunder, which Erasmus light-heartedly dubbed a "brainfart," didn't overshadow Kolbe's overall performance. The Springbok wing redeemed himself spectacularly with a try early in the second half, showcasing the flair and skill that fans have come to expect. Erasmus was all praise, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the numerous positives rather than dwelling on a single mistake.

“He did many other things that were great in the game. I’ve done stupid things like that when I was playing – all of us have. But you have to remember all the brilliant things he does as well. I think we can forgive him for those seven points,”

he added.

In other team news, the Boks' lineup was further bolstered as a towering new player joined the squad in London, hinting at strategic shifts and heightened expectations for the games ahead. As the Rugby Championship continues, all eyes will be on how these adjustments play out on the international stage.

As for Kolbe, if history is anything to go by, his slip up in Durban will soon be just another quirky anecdote in an otherwise stellar career. After all, in rugby, as in life, sometimes a quick drop can lead to a high bounce back!
