Could the Springboks be plotting the ultimate rugby coup? Imagine this: Scott Robertson, fresh off his All Blacks coaching gig, jumping ship to join South Africa’s ranks. According to Gregor Paul from the New Zealand Herald, while it seems like a stretch, with Rassie Erasmus at the helm, never say never.

Robertson, who's currently on the job hunt after a rather sudden exit from the All Blacks, is reportedly raring to get back into the coaching scene to revive his career. But it’s not straightforward. His departure deal supposedly includes a cool NZ$1-million and a clause preventing him from coaching another tier-one nation for a year. However, rumors swirl about a loophole that might allow him to coach against the All Blacks if the stars align.

"Razor approached me"

In this tangled web of possibilities, Paul suggests that Robertson’s best shot at a swift return might just be with the Springboks, especially with an attack coach like Tony Brown already in place. The idea of Robertson, who’s a wizard at dissecting attack patterns, joining the Boks could give the South African team an edge, particularly with their looming clash against the All Blacks in the next World Cup quarter-final.

"Razor was just on edge, always tense"

Such a move would definitely stir the pot, and Erasmus, known for his strategic mind games, might just be keen on unsettling the All Blacks with tales of their former coach switching allegiances. On a practical note, Robertson’s knack for breaking down play styles could seriously beef up the Springboks’ strategic playbook.

Despite all the speculation, Paul admits that the notion of Robertson teaming up with the Boks is a bit of a “Hollywood long shot.” Meanwhile, Robertson’s agent has been busy, reportedly knocking on the doors of the Queensland Reds and even the Harlequins in London.

The rugby world remains on pins and needles to see where “Razor” will cut next. But one thing’s for sure, wherever he ends up, it’ll be a game-changer.
