Fullback dynamo Rhyno Smith has decided that the pasta and vino are too good to leave behind, signing a fresh contract that keeps him at Benetton until June 2028. The South African sensation, who originally ventured to Italy back in 2021, has found more than just success on the field with the Treviso squad; he's found a second home.

Smith has been nothing short of spectacular in his lime green jersey, racking up an impressive 390 points across 78 appearances. With stats boasting 35 tries, 31 conversions, 55 penalties, and even four cheeky drop goals, he’s not just a player; he’s a one-man highlight reel. Whether he’s darting down as a fullback, covering as a flyhalf, or speeding on the wing, Smith has shown time and again why he's a crowd pleaser.

Prior to his Italian adventure, Smith showcased his skills with the Cheetahs in the URC and the Sharks in Super Rugby and the Currie Cup. He also dazzled in the freewheeling rugby carnival known as the Barbarians, most recently making a splash in October.

"I came to Treviso wanting a new experience — to play differently, meet new people and explore a new culture. I never imagined I’d find a new home here,"

Smith expressed. He's clearly more than settled in the picturesque Italian town, both on and off the field.

The decision to stay was a no-brainer for Smith, who has embraced the Italian way of life and rugby with open arms. He’s not just surviving; he’s thriving, and with his contract now extended, it seems the love affair between Smith, Benetton, and Treviso is set to continue for a few more chapters.

"Staying here was the easiest decision of my career, and I believe the best is yet to come."

With Smith committed to dazzling the fans at Benetton for another three years, the future looks as bright as the Italian sun. Here's to more tries, more points, and more of Smith lighting up the URC with his unmistakable flair and panache.
