As the rugby season intensifies, Leinster centre Garry Ringrose is brimming with a renewed sense of purpose. Despite a recent setback in the United Rugby Championship, where Leinster fell 29-26 to Benetton, the team is poised to make significant strides in the upcoming Investec Champions Cup semi-final against Toulon. This match not only offers a chance for redemption but also an opportunity to vie for a coveted spot in the final, setting the stage for a thrilling rugby showdown at Dublin's Aviva Stadium.

Leinster's journey this season has been a rollercoaster of emotions and challenges. Currently holding the fourth position in the URC standings, they are optimistic about leveraging their home advantage in the final league matches against the Lions and Ospreys to climb higher. However, the immediate focus shifts to the Champions Cup, where memories of last year's semi-final loss to Northampton Saints still linger painfully. That defeat, by a narrow margin of 37-34 at the same venue, has been a source of both motivation and reflection for the team.

Ringrose, at 31, is acutely aware of what's at stake.

"Yeah, I’d say energised by the fact that it’s May,"

he commented, reflecting on the seasonal peak of competitive rugby.

"We were in this position a year ago and after the result of that game would have bitten your arm off to, maybe not fast forward the clock, but just to be in a position now again and get another crack at a semi-final. Obviously, lots has happened in the interim. So yeah, excited, motivated, I guess."

The path to this year's semi-final has been paved with hard lessons from past encounters. Ringrose acknowledges that while the focus is squarely on Toulon, the scars from last year are not just reminders of failure but beacons guiding their preparation. "I guess there is a bit of that," he admits, speaking to the blend of anticipation and historical awareness shaping their strategy. "You focus on the possibility, or the opportunity, that’s in front of us. But last year and the past 10 years, there’s always lessons and learnings you try and pick up, and scars you have. Valuable ones to go through and experience and hopefully be better come the next opportunity."

As Leinster gears up for what promises to be a riveting clash against Toulon, the team remains conscious of the improvements needed from last year's semi-final. With the collective effort over the past year, and the strategic insights gained from past defeats, Leinster is not just playing to win; they are playing to prove how far they have come, making every match a testament to their growth and resilience in the face of adversity.
