Exeter Chiefs' director of rugby, Rob Baxter, has recommitted to the club by signing a new multi-year deal, ensuring his long-term future at the helm. A former player with over 300 appearances for Exeter, Baxter has been instrumental in the club's rise from the lower leagues to the pinnacle of English rugby. Since taking charge as head coach in 2009, he has guided the team to their first-ever top-flight promotion, two PREM titles, three PREM Rugby Cups, and an Investec Champions Cup victory over his 16-year tenure.

Baxter's return to front-line coaching this season has seen the Chiefs currently positioned fourth in the PREM standings. His leadership not only captures the essence of tactical acumen but also embodies a deep connection with the club’s ethos.

"I'm delighted to have signed a contract extension. I’ve been involved here a long time, had some fantastic experiences and some tough ones along the way too, though thankfully those have been few and far between,"

Baxter remarked.

He continued, "To have the club be happy to extend my time here makes me proud. I am excited and enthused to work with our current players, the newcomers for next season, the emerging academy talents, and our coaching team."

Baxter’s vision for the Chiefs extends well beyond immediate successes.

"I can really see a bright future for the club. I genuinely feel we’re going to be a club challenging others at the right end of the PREM and hopefully we'll grow into a team who battles it out in the latter stages of European competition in the future too,"

he added. His ambition is matched by a clear commitment to nurturing young talent and fostering a competitive squad.

Exeter Chiefs CEO and chairman, Tony Rowe, also commented on Baxter’s extension, highlighting his pivotal role in the club's development. "Rob has been front and centre of the growth of this club having helped build its foundations as a player. He is an Exeter Chiefs man through and through and has led us through some of our most memorable moments," Rowe stated. He further noted that Baxter has assembled a new coaching team and a young squad poised to compete at the highest levels, adding anticipation to what the future holds under Baxter’s continued guidance.

With Baxter's new contract, the stability within Exeter’s coaching ranks is reinforced, securing the positions of Dave Walder, Haydn Thomas, Ross McMillan, James Wilson, and Glen Townson. This solid foundation sets the stage for the Chiefs to pursue further glories in both domestic and European arenas, encapsulating a bright and ambitious future for the club under Baxter’s experienced stewardship.
