If you thought the SA Schools rugby scene was buzzing with talent, hold onto your hats! Thirteen starlets from this year’s electric SA Schools squads have clinched spots in the coveted 53-player lineup attending the SA Rugby’s U17 Boys Elite Player Development camp. This rugby fiesta is set to kick off on Saturday, 29 November and will stretch till the 6th of December at the scenic Hoër Landbouskool Boland near Paarl.

Diaan Augustyn, Lwandile Mlaba, and Jacobus de Villiers are just a few of the names that shone brightly in the SA Schools team and are now ready to rub shoulders with the equally talented SA Schools A players like Juvan Burden and Nhlanhla Ndlovu at the camp. With such a lineup, you can bet the rugby pitch will be sizzling with action!

The brains behind the operation include a stellar cast of coaches such as Lwazi Zangqa and Flash Malinga, who will be driving the technical training. Their mission? To refine these young athletes’ functional and positional skills and integrate them into a game model set to be the backbone of future SA Schools and U18 programs.

"The U17 camp will see continuation of the functional and positional skills started during the players’ U16 year,"

noted Herman Masimla, SA Rugby’s senior manager for development. "However, this camp will also have a strong focus on the implementation of the game model that will be utilised during the SA Schools and SA U18 programmes, and beyond for these players, while mental conditioning will also be a focus area."

From bulldozing props like Zeake Mata and Clement Makelele to swift-footed outside backs like Ncuthu Kepe and Lucritia Magau, the roster is a blend of all rugby flavors. The Junior Springbok coaching team will also drop by, possibly hunting for the next big stars.

With such a mix of seasoned coaches and promising young talent, this development camp is more than just training; it's a launchpad for the next generation of rugby heroes. Stay tuned, because rugby’s future stars are lacing up as we speak!
