Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, the burgeoning Springboks sensation, has ticked yet another box in his rapidly ascending rugby career by captaining the Stormers to a thrilling 39-28 Champions Cup triumph over Leicester in Cape Town. Hot on the heels of a perfect test match streak in 2025, where the Boks emerged victorious in every fixture with Feinberg-Mngomezulu sporting the number 10 jersey, the young star has now been shortlisted for both Men’s and Young Player of the Year at the South African Rugby awards.

The 23-year-old fly-half, who recently stepped up as the Stormers' skipper, expressed the honor and full-circle moment of leading his mentors. "It was a great privilege for me and so cool because a lot of the guys that I was leading are the guys that took me under their wing when I was 18, 19," Feinberg-Mngomezulu reflected. The leadership stint, although temporary, was a profound learning curve for him amidst the high-pressure game dynamics.

"Leicester did a great job and put us under some pressure. It made it a hard day to lead, but we got there in the end. It was an interesting game and a very tough game,"

he admitted. Despite the challenges, Feinberg-Mngomezulu helped navigate the team through rough patches, thanks in part to the seasoned leaders around him. "They really helped us get through some patches of the game and helped me learn. It was tough, but it was a great experience," he added.

Off the field, the young captain is focused on adherence to game plans and the seamless execution of strategies. "When we follow the game plan, we put points on teams and we fire shots and I think we are very successful with those. Sometimes we drift off plan," he explained. The Stormers, currently leading the URC with eight wins, face upcoming derbies against the Sharks, adding more intensity to their schedule.

Stormers coach John Dobson also weighed in on the team's performance and upcoming challenges.

"We have got two massive local derbies coming up,"

Dobson stated, emphasizing the need to maintain their unbeaten streak in the URC. Reflecting on the Champions Cup, he expressed optimism about competing in Europe: "We really think we have got a squad that can compete properly in Europe, and that’s always been our dream."

As the Stormers gear up for their next challenges, both Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Dobson are clear on their roles and the high stakes involved. The blend of youthful energy and seasoned strategy seems poised to keep the Stormers on their winning path.
