Boxing Day is set for a titanic clash as Sale Sharks host Harlequins, with both teams eager to bounce back from their recent drubbings. George Ford and Alex Dombrandt headline the list of England internationals making a return to the pitch, setting the stage for a fierce encounter.

Sale Sharks are shaking things up after a tough 47-21 loss to Northampton Saints, with coach Alex Sanderson making five key changes to his squad. Joe Carpenter is slotted in at full-back, bringing a fresh dynamic alongside Tom O’Flaherty and Alex Willis. The midfield sees Rob du Preez and Marius Louw, while George Ford teams up with Raffi Quirke to guide the play from the halves. The pack is anchored by Tom Curry at number eight, flanked by captain Ernst van Rhyn and Jacques Vermeulen, with Hyron Andrews and Ben Bamber locking down the scrum.

Harlequins, on the other hand, are keeping changes minimal despite a 40-14 defeat to Bristol Bears. Alex Dombrandt, returning from duty, will start from the bench, adding some weight to the reserve list. The starting lineup still looks formidable with Nick David, Rodrigo Isgró, and captain Cadan Murley forming an explosive back three. The reliable Marcus Smith starts at fly-half, with Will Porter as his scrum-half counterpart.

"We need an immediate response to last weekend, and with the boys coming back in, we've got a great chance to turn things around," said Alex Sanderson, highlighting the importance of this match for Sale.

In the forwards, Chandler Cunningham-South takes the number eight jersey for Harlequins, supported by flankers Tom Lawday and Jack Kenningham. The locks will be manned by Kieran Treadwell and Guido Petti, with a front row comprising Harry Williams, Jack Walker, and Will Hobson.

The game, set to kick off at 17:30 GMT at the CorpAcq Stadium, promises to be a crucial bout in the season’s narrative for both teams. With Ian Tempest refereeing and coverage available on TNT Sports 1 and Discovery+, fans won’t miss a moment of this post-Christmas rugby showdown.
