….of why Pollard was so essential to our WC. And to think the only reason Eluckmiss had Pollard there was because of the Marx injury. Genius! being able to foresee that injury, pure genius.

Jan 07, 2024, 21:16

Hear, Hear I know of at least one blogger who would go with that Moz.

Jan 07, 2024, 21:30

What a load of shit - one would swear Pollard has a 100% kicking record everytime he kicks, that his percentages are higher than Ramos, Farrell’s etc

One would swear only kicking counts in rugby and that tries count for nothing

How did the Lions get into a position to challenge for the game, by Louw scoring that try

Had the Sharks stopped the try then the kick by Chamberlian would of been of no consequence

Geez this stuff is so fucking obvious

Jan 07, 2024, 23:37

But not to you apparently Dave…..c’mon admit it was a huge mistake not selecting Pollard from the off.

Jan 08, 2024, 11:49

Huh?

Jan 08, 2024, 13:40

Well if you take pollard out the equation, would Manie, Faf, Willemse or Le roux have been able to slot those pressure kicks? They might have …..the fact is that because we did not create more scoring opportunities against the best teams, it came down to those kicks…..so Pollard was the Catalyst that Won us the WC.

Jan 08, 2024, 15:20

Precisely.

Jan 08, 2024, 17:24

Mpower you dumbfuck - we scored more tries than England and France so your take on not having more scoring opportunities is a load of ignorant shit

Just like saying Pollard making the kicks won us the WC - fuck me how ignorant is that

Since when were games decided by an individual?

Ramos and Farrell have better kicking percentages than Pollard, so could easily have also made their kicks but hey ho they did not, that’s rugby. One would fucking swear Pollard had a 100% kicking record in every test he played

So had the Boks stopped the Kiwi non try then Pollards last kick would have been of no consequence just as if Kolisi had made the pass to set up the try .

The whole game is made up of scoring opportunities taken and others lost. The game is fucking played over 80 min by 23 players. We did not win the WC because of Pollard’s kicks we won it thanks to more of those opportunities taken by the team as a whole than opportunities lost by the opposition

Get a fucking grip

Jan 08, 2024, 17:56

I am speaking about the last 3 games where those kicks mattered….and I never said that the rest of the team did not contribute, off course they did…stop putting words in my mouth! You really are a retard….not being able to speak to people with respect and always being personal, shows your true character…..a Poes! : )

Jan 08, 2024, 18:09

Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble. Admit it Dave we won the World Cup because our kicking was better than our opponents. That kicking by a man Eluckmiss never had the brains to pick until Marx got hurt. There is a huge difference between being a good kicker and being a good kicker under WC pressure.

From the 2015 QF

Handre Pollard 8

Showed exceptional composure from the tee with five out of five penalties, and largely brought down his man when targeted in attack.

From the 2019 WC final

10. Handre Pollard

Missed a straightforward opening penalty but never looked back off the tee. Came up with an outstanding take under the high ball and looked more assured than England’s playmakers. 8

From  the 2022 WC final:

Handré Pollard Handed start after heroics last weekend and caused problems with high hanging kicks and was his usual deadly self from tee. 8

Jan 08, 2024, 18:10

So here we have a player with 8 ratings in 3 WCs, one in a semi, two in finals….missing one kick in three matches and slotting some bombs.

And the genius leaves him out the team and you still think he knows what he is doing. Give me a break.

Jan 08, 2024, 18:18

No Moz we won thanks to our team and our awesome coach

Jan 08, 2024, 18:21

Mpower go away and learn the art of the game then come back and pretend you know what you are talking about

Jan 08, 2024, 19:45

Actually on reflection I wouldn’t just say without Pollard we wouldn’t have won the 23 Cup. I’d say our whole run nearly winning the semis in 2015 and WCs in 2019 and 2023 would never have happened without Pollard. The only other player I would put in that category is Etzebeth.

Jan 08, 2024, 20:04

Yeah I’m thinking the same about Naas Botha - if he had not been in the commentary box we would not have won the 95 WC

Jan 08, 2024, 20:05

"And the genius leaves him out the team and you still think he knows what he is doing. Give me a break."

He was coming back from a long injury...his reintroduction was fast tracked if compared to standard practice.

Jan 08, 2024, 20:21

Yep Draad but hey what does Rassie know hey?

Jan 09, 2024, 03:02

No Draadtjie…..the genius should have selected him in the original team. And if his injury  was such that he couldn’t play effectively, he could have been substituted. But he had already played a club game before the WC.

There was no certain plan to get Pollard there, Libbok was the flavor of the day….Pollard, a proven WC veteran,  discarded.

The only reason Pollard got there was because Marx was hurt. Creating the next dumb decision, playing the knockouts without a second hooker.

In the meantime we had scrumhalves to burn. Are you honestly claiming those were smart decisions.

Jan 09, 2024, 03:50

"Are you honestly claiming those were smart decisions. "

No, I have no idea what the logic was for picking 4 scrummies...looked daft...
