Can’t believe they did not win that at home - piss poor really

Jun 24, 2024, 07:17

The Bulls created at least two solid breakout opportunities in the first half that they squandered with hasty, inaccurate offloading or passing. They should have been home and gone after the first 40.

They refused numerous kickable penalties - in a final - for lineout mauls which Glasgow were perfectly happy to counter. This includes one with a fair bit of time remaining in the second half that could have put them within two points, drop goal territory. Stupid decisions, poor execution, leaky defense (at one point 37 missed tackles late in the second) that put them on the backfoot and scrambling that entire half.

The Bulls allowing Glasgow to score at the end of the first half after they completely dominated to that point swung the game. Wrong time to take your foot off the pedal. It was all Glasgow from then on.

Also agree with those having a go at the DJ at Loftus, its a rugby stadium not a night club. Stop playing music every time there is stoppage, takes the home crowd out of the game.

Jun 24, 2024, 09:16

Klop ................ its a sad feature in NZ as well.

Look at the Euros soccer .............. who needs Neil Diamond or Tom Jones ?

Jun 24, 2024, 09:23

That's the Loftus way, Stav, and to a large extent the South African way. South Africans will travel all the way into the middle of the bush surrounded by nature and then blast music all night long. Can't see it changing anytime soon.

Jun 24, 2024, 12:14

Jake needs to pack it in, he has a huge budget, least transformed team (not that it matters) and yet can't put a decent team out. With no Moody. Willie or Arendse (wasn't 100%) seem to run out of ideas.

Not sure how Carr is still able to make any professional team.

Very poor execution by the team. Just when I think Jake is about to do some special he goes and messes it up. That trophy was the bulls any day.

But then the stormers did the same, but at least we can see now which players can handle the pressure in finals and who can't

I believe boks should be selected from these scenarios and we should just ignore their stats rest of the season

Jun 24, 2024, 12:36

And then he goes and says the ref was favouring the away side

Typical Jake

Jun 24, 2024, 12:45

A person can only wonder what was said at half time ….the Bulls looked panicked and no real answers to the problems that they were facing on the field….Jake was talking in his post match interview about a trick he is still missing . One of the tricks is defences. That is in my eyes one of the biggest reasons they lost and taking each and every one of your kick able penalties….as a seasoned campaigner Jake is supposed to know this.

Jun 24, 2024, 13:08

Well here's the simplest final trick: take the points when on offer. If you're 5 off, take the 3 and suddenly you don't need to desperately graft for a try to win, you can kick yourself over the finish line.

Another one: if it ain't working (mauls, sending isolated runners at a defensive wall), try something else.

Jun 24, 2024, 13:36

No introspection necesssary - just stop playing  Jake Ball and the team will improve.   For that purpose try and  have a game plan in advance as to how to score tries - which John Smit said was totally absent from the 2007 WC final match - the same thing happened in the Bulls match on Saturday.

In any even there were no coherent play in the match and then they would not have to consider as to why they lost the game would not have a revoew f why they lost.

Dave is right it was a shit performance .

Jun 24, 2024, 14:31

Congrats to the Bulls for earning a home final. Shows they did a lot right in the campaign.

Am I right in saying the Bulls were without Nyankane, Pollard, Moodie and Willie yet only lost by 5 points. Does anybody doubt the presence of these 4 was not worth at least 6 points.

Yes errors were made and chances were not taken but that happens and happend to the Glasgow Warriors as well.

However the Jake bashers should pipe down, stop over emoting  and also acknowledge what was achieved, something the other SA franchises couldn't achieve.

Please oaks man up and take the loss on the chin. Also be brave enough to admit the ref was not up to scratch which is never helpful. Love to see a Rassie analysis of the errors.

A point of concern was how the Bulls didn't deal with the rolling maul. Personally I though the Glasgow Warriors pack was pretty good and very fit. so give them credit.

I didn't think Wilco and the front row were that good. Wilco is a lump of lard. Rassie like strong props with endurance and fight. Does Wilco fit the bill? Probably not.

Anyhow Jake has something to build on.

Jun 24, 2024, 14:39

A point of concern was how the Bulls didn't deal with the rolling maul.

Somewhere in the game they quoted the number of maul tries Glasgow has scored but I can't remember the exact numbers. Something to the effect of they've scored 20-something maul tries in the tournament while the next closest side was at 7.  Maybe someone can get the right numbers from somewhere.

Jun 24, 2024, 14:41

Also be brave enough to admit the ref was not up to scratch which is never helpful. Love to see a Rassie analysis of the errors.

Rubbish the ref was fine, as he was in last years final. Glasgow just the better team on the day.

I notice the South African media has largely ignored Jakes ref comments. Think the realise its a bad look.

Jun 24, 2024, 15:04

I’m a Jake supporter, the guy is totally about rugby….but his comment on the ref was ill advised. South Africans are whining too much.

I agree with Pakie…we should have kicked the penalty that would have reduced the deficit to 2. That would have put the pressure on Glasgow.

Still the Bools had several chances from 5metres out to score. They just kept trying the maul which never worked all game. But it’s not like they weren’t competitive. They lost composure more than anything else. Too much doom and gloom and FFS every SA team should have a backline play as a maul alternative….or at least consider a tap and go vs a well defended maul.

Jun 24, 2024, 15:27

Jake has always been an average coach and a complete dick

He is being true to form

Disgrace that given his squad and budget he can’t win a final at home

Stupid selections like moving Kriel from 12 to 13, moving Moodie from 13 back to wing

Jake has always been crap with selections

Jun 24, 2024, 15:32

The Luke  Watson syndrome never goes away.

Jun 24, 2024, 16:11

His inability to work with Luke accounts for less than 1% of my issue with Jake

Jun 24, 2024, 17:16

I agree with you, Stav. All these blasts of music during matches really gets my goat

Jun 24, 2024, 17:27

What’s is your goat’s name Becs ? : )

Jun 24, 2024, 17:40

What’s is your goat’s name Becs ? : )

Dave.

Jun 24, 2024, 17:45

:)

Jun 24, 2024, 17:59

It’s called Percy, Mpower ;)

Jun 24, 2024, 18:00

Nice of you to name him after a Bok fullback, Becs.

Jun 24, 2024, 18:06

I thought all goats were called Billy after Vunipola.

Jun 24, 2024, 18:09

I name all my random animals after the great Percy Montgomery, Pakie.

I’ve had a cat, a fish, a weasel……now a goat ;)

Jun 24, 2024, 18:16

Cool :)

Jun 24, 2024, 18:17

My favourite pet, a Bengal miniature Leopard, was called Cabous :)

I also had a Koi called Joost.

Jun 24, 2024, 18:22

What do you call Dave?

Jun 24, 2024, 18:34

Ooh that would be telling, Mozart ;)

Jun 24, 2024, 18:38

Is a bengal cat more aggressive than a normal house cat?

Jun 24, 2024, 18:41

Oh yes, Mpower. He had issues over control. He would attack and acted like he was my partner rather than him being a pet.

With regards attacking other cats, no. He was not a big fighter, certainly nothing like my Siamese.

Jun 24, 2024, 18:49

Sounds scary….beautiful markings though.

Jun 24, 2024, 18:56

He was a bit scary. I do have the scars to remember him by !

He was the most beautiful and intelligent cat though. I still miss him :(

Jun 24, 2024, 21:34

Hopefully you have a safer Kitty now : )

Jun 24, 2024, 22:15

I notice the South African media has largely ignored Jakes ref comments. Think the realise its a bad look.

LOL I spoke to soon.

Jun 24, 2024, 22:27

It was pretty low key.

Jun 24, 2024, 22:35

Imagine if it had been Rassie - funny how his non direct comments had board members raising all hell and good old Jake has a bitch and a moan about the ref and that’s classified as low key

The hypocrisy

Jun 24, 2024, 22:36

I have a stray called Casper now, Mpower. I’m trying to tame him.

Jun 24, 2024, 22:49

Hopefully Casper will come around soon….I find Kitties to be more independent and not so needy like dogs.

Jun 24, 2024, 22:56

Absolutely right, Mpower :) .

Cats are certainly more independent than dogs !

Jun 24, 2024, 23:30

Jake moaned a bit….Eluckmiss made a misleading video which was conveniently leaked. Chalk and cheese.

Jun 24, 2024, 23:39

Rassie got banned for fundamentally being a poor loser.

Jun 25, 2024, 00:49

He got banned because the video got out, not because he made the video. World Rugby concurred with the problems the video highlighted until it got leaked. It wasn't the issues highlighted in the video nor the making of or the existence of the video that was a problem. The problem came when it went public, which seemed to have been down more to naivety on Rassie's part for not protecting the video enough rather than anything deliberate. He covers this saga extensively in his book, but this 365 article offers a short and sweet version.

Jun 25, 2024, 02:51

Pakie

You are right aboiut th is one.   Erasmus ssent the video to AUSSIE Rugby and they elaked oit to he public instead of invetigating how the Aussie Ref handled the match.   That was the problem - Erasmus did no make a public statement like White did in tis case.

Mozart is a White admirer and so was I until 2014 when he was a divisive coach that caused a player and public backlash ag ainst him and he was effectively fired by the Sharks at the end of 2014.  hat ws a fter he breached his contract with the Brumbies becasuse  he did not get the Aussie Head Coach Job.

He then returned to SA where he lived in Stellenbosch - shortly afterwards divorced his wife and in 2016 went to coach Montpellier and when they would not renew hiis contract he ended up coaching a Kapan club,   Within 2 years his story with ebing retuning to SA due o family reasons did not count anymore.

Jake is according to John Smit never provided for a potential try score in the game plan in the 2007 WC.   Smit said that if he English corner try was allowed the Springboks would have had to try and work out how they themsleves would have to find a way by which they could score a try themselves.  In fact waching the 2007 final was a bore bcause of the fact that the Springbok forwards did not dominate the forward battle and they lost breakdown ball possession and the backline rarely used and also being  ineffective.

The saying went that the Sringboks were playing Jake Ball in tests and that had minimal effect in 2004 - got worse in 2005 and was total BS in 2006.   In the 2007 WC the Springboks played no teams ranked higher than SA and in effect in all their matches played the number 7 ranked English team twice and the 9 seeded Fiji team in the WC.   After beating the Ehglish 33-6 in the  round robin stage of the tournament scoring 2 tries - they never in the final came near to scoring a try.

The match on Saturday had the same fundamental restricctions as happened in the 2007 final - the only real plan used in the matcch on Saturday was that whereas they had limited competitive success in  2007 the forwards on Satiday failed in the domination stakes - the only reason they lost on Saturday comprised of Jake Play - kick the shit out of the ball and kick penalties to win by those means, while the backline wsa rarely used and when they were they mostly showed how their passing game was a failure and defense extremely questionable.
