Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has revealed a shortlist of 3 players to captain the Springboks against Wales in Siya Kolisi's absence.

It is out of Pieter-Steph du Toit, Eben Etzebeth and Bongi Mbonambi. but if you read this article, Rassie goes on to say that he wants to give Malcolm Marx a start after his injury so it's probably out of PSdT and Eben, with Eben being the obvious favourite,

Rassie also says that Kolisi is not out of the running for long-term Bok capatain even though he prefers his captain to be locally based. We'll know when he picks his team to play Ireland. Whoever is named skipper for that game will be the 1st choice for at least the rest of this season.

PSDT does not strike me as a leader - Eben is the obvious choice for sure

Mostert for captain!

Considering the next World Cup, Steph DuToit is the only player who will probably still be in the squad. If he is going to get captaincy experience, now is the time.

Kolisi did not seem too good at dealing with the referee.
Dealing with the referee is important for a captain, and Du Toit may do pretty well here.

Taking experience into account, I would go for Eztebeth. However, that might mean less handbag stuff from Eztebeth, or more.

Mosterd will probably be dropped soon, once some new players get caps.

EE's my choice, I think he'll enjoy the honour & added responsibilities ......... like McCaw ,quietly lead by example .

Absolutely.

Agree BB how better to honour the greatest Bok lock to date.

Disco Dassie's right about the captain being a home boy.

I dont think Jasper Wiese is getting many votes for captain.

Eben is 32, and will be 35 at the next WC.

Hard not to support him for captain other than to question whether rewarding him with the armband is more important than picking somebody now that will be in the job and young enough to deliver at the next WC.

On that basis I'd want Marx or Willemse for Skipper...in that order.

And beyond that Roos. He did a podcast with Rudy Paige during the WC and he speaks very well, optimising the "gentleman off the field and savage on it" character that Richie had.

Perhaps I'm just biased but I want a young captain that can be in the job for 8 years. To me, it's fundamental to having a great team. See all great sports teams in history for reference.

The Springbok captain.  Let me explain something to you.   In 2018 Erasmus Spingbok team for the first test he coached played Wales in Washinton.    The time compiled of only 5 players wh o plaaaayed for the Springboks regularly - the team  in the main consist of fringe players since the test was outside the test window - just like the Wales test year.  The captain of the team was Du Toit.

In tests after that the player who dealt with the ref after Kolisi was subbed even with Vermeulen and Etzebeth was on the field was D u Toit.  .  So my money would be on Du Toit captaining the team in the coming Wales test,
