In a recent heart-to-heart, Siya Kolisi, the captain of the Springboks, shared his team's burning desire to keep all 15 players on the pitch for the entirety of their upcoming clash against Ireland in Dublin. Following a couple of games where the Boks finished with fewer than their full complement, including a match against France where they triumphed 32-17 despite being a man down, discipline has climbed to the top of their agenda.

Last week's game saw Franco Mostert sent off early against Italy, yet the Boks still managed to secure a 32-14 win, a decision that was later overturned by a disciplinary committee. With these recent on-field dramas, Kolisi emphasized the importance of discipline going into the Ireland match. "Yeah, it is, because we want to play with 15 men," he remarked, stressing the work they've put into controlling aggression without crossing the line.

"We're an aggressive team, and we can't take that away, which is why we work so hard to make sure we stay on the field."

Kolisi also highlighted the challenge posed by Ireland, especially on their home turf. "Ireland are a really good team and we have struggled for many years in terms of winning here. We’re going to need everybody. It’s all about taking opportunities." He reflected on past narrow losses, underscoring the importance of seizing key moments during the game.

When asked about what drives the team, Kolisi’s response was clear and focused on internal motivation. "Our motivation and purpose is consistent every single game," he asserted, emphasizing the pride of representing their country and the inner drive that fuels them, irrespective of the opposition.

The captain also took a moment to commend teammate Snyman, who is marking his 50th Test appearance amidst overcoming significant injury hurdles. "I’m really happy for him," Kolisi said warmly. "With everything he’s been through, he could have given up any time. Credit to the unions who stuck with him." He praised Snyman’s resilience and his capacity to inspire both on and off the field.

"He’s one of the most talented guys in the group. A big human being, hard to put down, and the way he offloads ... we allow him to be who he is. He knows the team comes first, and that’s what makes this team special."

Kolisi’s words not only highlight the strategic focus of the Springboks but also reflect the deep camaraderie and respect that propels them forward as they aim to tackle one of their tougher opponents away from home.
