14 Cheslin Kolbe
Not flawless, but great cover from kick through early in the game, great kick-chasing, good defensive reads and showed his ability to produce moments of magic.
6/10 = my rating 5/40
13 Jesse Kriel (captain)
Conceded an early offside penalty and became very frustrated with ref calls, but made some crucial defensive hits and a handful of carries.
6/10 = ,y rting 6/10
12 Damian de Allende
The usual – some strong carries, solid on defence (hit tackle count well into double figures) and rare moments of creativity.
6/10 = my rating 6.5/10
11 Canan Moodie
Limited opportunities on attack, but showed his ability to make ground. Defence was a mixed bag.
5/10 = my rating 5/10
10 Handre Pollard

5/10 = my rating 4,5/10
9 Grant Williams
Regularly disrupted behind the rucks and his skills let him down, with some crucial knock-ons.
5/10 = my rating 4/10
8 Siya Kolisi
He worked hard on both sides of the ball, but was replaced after just 50 minutes. Came back briefly in the last 10 minutes, but had run out of puff.
5/10 = My rating 4,5/10
7 Pieter-Steph du Toit
One of the best players in Green and Gold. There was a couple of penalties conceded and some missed tackles. However, he had some strong carries (11 in total), great defence, as usual (a team-high 14) and hard work at the breakdown
7/10 = My rating 7/10
6 Marco van Staden
Not everybody’s cup of tea, but his workrate was again higher than what he gets credit for. Some big carries in the second half, the most of the Boks, made the most metres in the game. Also made nine tackles.
7/10 = My rating 6/10
5 Ruan Nortje
Brilliant line-out steal and a breakdown penalty won. However, it was a mixed bag all round – a couple of missed tackles and not a good day in the line-outs.
5/10 = my rating 4,5/10
4 Eben Etzebeth
Gave away a silly tip-tackle penalty and generally a quiet day. His best work was on defence. …
5/10 = my rating 4,5/10
3 Thomas du Toit
Strong scrumming, but penalised in a crucial scrum. Worked hard on defence, but otherwise very quiet outside the set pieces.
5/10 = my rating 5/10
2 Malcolm Marx
Horror show, with several lost line-outs, free-kicked for a delayed throw and a crucial missed tackle early on. Eventually won some redemption with strong carries and a crucial try. However, one of his worst Bok performances.
4/10 = my rating 3.5/10
1 Ox Nche
