Damian Willemse, gearing up to don the No 12 jersey for the first time in a Test match, didn't mince words when he highlighted the need for the Springboks to transform their game plan into a more lethal force against the All Blacks this Saturday in Wellington. After a frustrating opener at Eden Park, where South Africa's repeated forays into enemy territory yielded little, Willemse is adamant about the team's need for precision. "We've got to make sure we're clinical," he declared, reflecting on the missed opportunities that plagued their last performance.

Willemse pointed out the shortcomings in Auckland, where despite creating numerous scoring chances, the Boks failed to capitalize. "Not like last week where we had about 10 entries into the All Black 22 and didn’t capitalise on many of them," he lamented. This realization has steered their preparation focus sharply towards converting pressure into points.

"We’re really focused on the micro details, being dialled in for every chance that presents itself."

The match in Wellington isn’t just another game; it’s a critical juncture with the Rugby Championship trophy at stake. The Boks' strategy? Zero in on those pivotal 'small moments' that often tilt the scales in Test matches. Willemse emphasized the importance of a positive and proactive gameplay, "For us, we’re focused on going out there on Saturday and making sure we can play positively and get the victory," he explained.

Expressing oneself on the field, according to Willemse, doesn't necessarily mean flashy plays. It's about each player executing their role flawlessly and seizing opportunities. "Expressing yourself isn’t always playing flashy rugby. For us it’s about nailing our roles, and if an opportunity presents itself, we take it. That’s expressing ourselves," he added.

As the Boks gear up for a crucial showdown, the emphasis remains on being meticulous and ruthless. Wellington is set to witness a determined South African side aiming to not just compete, but dominate and clinch a much-needed victory to keep their Championship hopes alive.
